🎉 **Congratulations to our 2026 Honorary Alumnus, Zack Call!**

During Homecoming, Bishop Luers High School proudly recognized Zack Call as our 2026 Honorary Alumnus.

A South Side High School graduate by diploma, Zack has become a Knight in every way that matters. From coaching baseball and serving our students and families as Director of Bus Transportation, to being a constant presence in our hallways and on our sidelines, Zack has given Bishop Luers his time, talents, humor, and heart.

Those who know Zack know his gift for holding students accountable while making sure they always know it comes from a place of genuine care. They also know there is rarely a conversation with Zack that doesn't include a laugh or two!

And when he isn't at Luers, you just might find him on a much bigger stage as the lead singer of Fort Wayne rock band Downstait, known throughout the professional wrestling world and behind Cody Rhodes' iconic entrance song, "Kingdom."

While his diploma may say South Side, we are incredibly proud that Zack can now officially call himself a Bishop Luers alumnus.

❤️ Congratulations, Zack! Thank you for embracing the Luers Spirit and for all you have given to our students, families, and school community.

🎉 **Congratulations to our 2026 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient, Charles P. Herber ’62!**

A member of Bishop Luers’ very first graduating class, Charles has spent his life living out the values of faith, family, education, and service.

Charles recently retired after an incredible **60-year career in education**, including four decades at Lafayette Jefferson High School. As an English and journalism teacher, mentor, and adviser to the nationally recognized student newspaper *The Booster*, Charles impacted generations of young people, with an estimated **8,000 students** touched by his teaching throughout his career.

Charles credits Bishop Luers teacher Mr. John Gaughn as one of the educators who inspired him. More than six decades later, Charles went on to provide that same inspiration to generations of students of his own.

From one of our original Knights to a lifetime spent shaping the lives of others, Charles represents Luers Spirit in a truly special way.

Please join us in congratulating **Charles P. Herber ’62, our 2026 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient!** ❤️🖤

Meet our September Alumnus of the Month, Albert Pippins!

Albert's love of performing didn't end when he left the halls of Bishop Luers. From Show Choir and Luers musicals to the Fort Wayne Civic Theatre's production of The Color Purple and now Jagged Little Pill, Albert has continued to share his talents on stages throughout our community.

But some of his most meaningful Luers memories happened away from the spotlight. Albert reflects on his faith, the football coaches who showed him what it meant to be a man through their care and support, and a Luers Spirit he describes with one word: teamwork.

We're proud to celebrate Albert and the many ways he continues to carry Luers Spirit beyond our halls.

Congratulations, Albert! Once a Knight. Always a Knight. ❤️

Today, the Bishop Luers community pauses to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the courage of the first responders, service members, and ordinary citizens who answered in a time of unimaginable tragedy.

We remember those who were lost, those whose lives were forever changed, and the families who continue to carry their memory.

May we never forget.

❤️🖤 Once a Knight, Always a Knight!

We love seeing our alumni continue to make a difference in the Fort Wayne community!

Congratulations to Solaire Young ’20 as she begins this exciting new chapter with the Fort Wayne Fire Department as a member of FWFD Academy Class 99! 🚒

Solaire's commitment to serving others is something the entire Bishop Luers community can be proud of. We can't wait to see where this journey takes her!

Congratulations, Solaire! Your Luers family is cheering you on! ❤️🖤

Solaire Young #1035 joins with a heart for serving others and deep roots in the Fort Wayne community. A graduate of Bishop Luers High School and Ivy Tech Community College, Solaire spent the last six years working as a CNA, where she developed the compassion, resilience, and calm presence that now serve her well in the fire service.
Inspired by a family dedicated to helping others—her mother is a nurse and her father is a military veteran—Solaire says becoming a firefighter was the perfect opportunity to combine her passion for service, fitness, and personal growth. One of her favorite memories from the academy was building lifelong friendships with her classmates, especially the tradition of Friday dinners together.
Outside the firehouse, Solaire enjoys Pilates, strength training, Zumba, kickball, mentoring, attending local events, and spending time at church. She also comes from a big family with eight older brothers, two younger sisters, and more than 16 nieces and nephews.
Looking ahead, Solaire hopes to earn her paramedic certification and someday help train the next generation of firefighters. Around the station, she'll happily serve up baked spaghetti, and her dream trip is to visit Japan. Guided by the simple motto, “Push Past Your Limits,” she's excited to begin serving the community she has always called home.
