Valiente Dual Academy is a learning center where elementary homeschooled children can come together to learn Spanish from native speakers as well as study other core subjects.

Esta semana we wrapped up our study of Nicaragua by creating canastas inspired by pine needle baskets made in the country. We then sculpted our very own torovenados, bull-deer in the style made in Masaya, Nicaragua. 🐂🦌🇳🇮

We began our journey through Nicaragua by making keychains in the same way hamacas are made. Next, we learned about a national dance, El Güegüense, which features ornate horse masks. 🇳🇮🐴

To complete our study of Guatemala, we learned about the Quetzal, the national bird which is displayed on the country’s flag. We then made some embroidered roses in the style of Guatemalan bordados. 🇬🇹🌹

Guatemala was our focus country this week. We learned about the barriletes (giant kites) and muñecas quitapenas (worry dolls) 🇬🇹

We completed our study of Mexìco 🇲🇽 by making our own table top Poc-de-poc games in Mayan fashion. We also learned about guacamayo sanctuaries and made our own colorful aves. 🦜

Este semana we started our study of Mexíco 🇲🇽 We learned about nicho shadowboxes and made our own. We also discovered huichol bead art and created some bead estrellas 🌟

We finished our study of España 🇪🇸 by creating our own castañuela instruments and we learned about famous painter Salvador Dalí. Feliz fin de semana!

Estamos de vuelta, we are back! We had an exciting week exploring España 🇪🇸 We learned about the Iberian Lynx and the Castellers who make human towers as tall as 10 stories high!
