Last week our Stellar Award-winning Choir performed at the Congressional Black Caucus' Annual Legislative Conference Gospel Extravaganza.

Thank you to Congressman Sanford Bishop for selecting The Fort Valley State University Choir to represent the state of Georgia. Joined by the All Saints Soulful Voices (Louisiana), The Charity Collective (South Carolina) and The Coahoma Community College Gospel Choir (Mississippi), the evening was full of joyful noise.

While in DC, the choir visited Rep. Bishop’s office and the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture. 💙💛

Details for Dr. Surrency’s Homegoing Celebration:

Classes are canceled from 10 am to 6 pm, and University flags will be lowered to half-staff on the day of the service. The parking lot in front of the Pettigrew building will be reserved for the Surrency family. We ask that you please refrain from parking in that lot between the hours of 10 am – 6 pm. Thank you for your understanding.

Fort Valley State University is deeply saddened to share the passing of Jacques Surrency ’93, Ph.D., a beloved professor and Plant Science program coordinator for the College of Agriculture, Family Sciences and Technology.

Surrency began his tenure at FVSU in August 2003 and, throughout his 23 years of service to the university, made a lasting impact on the lives of students, colleagues and the broader Wildcat community. Among his many contributions, he served as the academic marshal for the College of Agriculture, Family Sciences and Technology during Commencement, a role that reflected his deep commitment to the university and its students.

During this difficult time, we extend our heartfelt prayers and condolences to the Surrency family, the Wildcat family and all who mourn his loss.

His memory, kindness and warm, inviting smile will forever remain in our hearts. 💙💛
We recognize that this loss may be difficult for many in our Wildcat family. Those who need support are encouraged to check their university email for information on connecting with a counselor and accessing available resources.
