The last week of classes calls for our last senior spotlight, SARAH BESHEARS!

Sarah is a mathematics major with teacher licensure. She says she has always had a passion for math and knew she wanted to major in it. Her favorite class here at UAFS was History of Math with Dr. Jackson. She had so much fun learning about all of the different mathematicians and what they discovered! Her favorite experience here has been the opportunity to attend different math conventions like MAA and ACTM as well as tour different masters programs like Vanderbilt and UARK. After graduation she will be teaching Geometry at Mansfield High School and is most looking forward to starting her career and spreading her passion for math as she teaches the next generations.

We are so proud of Sarah and what her future holds!

It's time for another MATH SENIOR SPOTLIGHT! It is an honor to introduce David Taylor. He is a mathematics major with a minor in computer science. He has a passion for learning and he said it was his high school math teacher, Mrs. Terry, that inspired him to major in math. His favorite class here at UAFS has been Intro to Criminal Justice with Dr. Mary Wuestewald, but also has enjoyed Introduction to Film with Dr. Ann-Gee Lee. His favorite experience has been running Nerd Out! - an event hosted by UAFS Housing. He has also enjoyed UAFS eSports, The Round Table, and The Pokemon Guild.

Here is what he had to say about what he is most excited about after graduation: "I look forward to decorating my own space for the first time. My childhood room was cramped and I never wanted to decorate my dorms as it always felt a bit pointless due to it not lasting too long (and with it almost always having been just one room for me), so I am outlandishly excited to go shopping after my first paycheck to buy things and design things exactly how I want."

This past week UAFS faculty and students went to the Arkansas/Oklahoma Regional Mathematical Association of America (MAA) annual conference. Our students participated in math Jeopardy and the integration bee and did fantastic! We are so grateful for our department to support learning opportunities like these for both faculty and students.
