One of the biggest red flags in an IEP meeting is when every single person on the school side immediately agrees with each other on every difficult decision, especially decisions that limit a child’s access, supports, opportunities, or inclusion.

Real collaboration includes discussion, questions, different perspective, problem-solving, data, and a willingness to listen when concerns are raised.

If the meeting feels more like a united front against your concerns than a collaborative team centered on your child, pay attention.

One thing you can do:
Ask the team to document the data they relied on to make the decision and ask what supplementary aids, services, and supports were considered BEFORE recommending a more restrictive option.

IDEA requires individualized, data-driven decisions, not predetermined consensus.
