UAFS Arts & Sciences Advising

M.Ed. with a concentration in English? We’d love to have you! 😊

UAFS is making it easier than ever for the teachers of the River Valley to advance their education.

Through our new Corporate Partners Program, employees of participating school districts can receive 50% off tuition toward a Master of Education degree. That’s a savings of approximately $6,000, in a hybrid program designed with working educators in mind.

Fort Smith Public Schools is the first district to join, and we are so excited to add more!

Next up in our welcome back/showcase series is Eden Barney! Eden is an Academic Advisor and has been with UAFS for almost 5 years. Eden advises for Chemistry, Computer Science, Graphic Design, Music, Music Education, and Studio Art. “I believe academic advising is a partnership between students and their advisor. As an advisor, it is my job to assist students in identifying their values and goals, supporting them while simultaneously challenging them to reflect on these values and the actions required to pursue their goals.” Outside of the office she enjoys experiencing adventures through reading and video games, as well as attempting (key word) to keep her cat out of trouble. (Cat tax can be paid in the comments.) 🦁📚🐈

Next in our welcome back series is Journi Goforth. Journi is an Academic Advisor & has been with UAFS for 3 years. Journi advises for Biology, Biology with Teacher Licensure, English, English with Teacher Licensure, Geoscience, History, History with Teacher Licensure, Mathematics, Mathematics with Teacher Licensure, & Spanish. She believes that her role as an advisor is to support & assist students toward gaining independence & feeling empowered by their choices so that they may reach their fullest potential academically & beyond graduation. She believes that students & advisors share the responsibility for a successful advising appointment. Students take responsibility for their decisions & advisors take responsibility for providing students with the information & environment to make the best possible choices. Outside of the advising center, Journi says that she always loves a good (and sometimes bad) book, especially if she gets the chance to talk about it with others. She also enjoys hiking & has recently joined the Club 52 program, which encourages Arkansans to visit all of the Arkansas State Parks. There's even a passport to track your progress.
