This week, our team is investing in professional learning at the AVID Summer Institute to bring even more opportunities to our students. AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) equips students with the skills, strategies, and support needed to succeed in rigorous coursework, college, careers, and beyond.

We are excited to share that Dan McCarty Middle School will be the only middle school in our area offering AVID on our campus! Through AVID and our Eagle Academy, we are creating pathways that help students become confident scholars, leaders, and future-ready learners.

After more than 17 years of dedicated service in education, we celebrate Mr. Peter Snyders and the incredible impact he has made on students throughout St. Lucie County.

A career changer who began teaching at nearly 50 years old, Mr. Snyders brought passion, experience, and a genuine love for helping students succeed. From high school reading and history classes to middle school language arts, ESE, and academic support, he has touched countless lives along the way.

For the past six years, Dan McCarty Middle School has been fortunate to benefit from his knowledge, patience, and commitment to student success. His influence will be felt long after his final day in the classroom.

After more than 30 years of dedicated service to public education, we proudly celebrate the retirement of an extraordinary educator, Ms. Kathy Smith.

For decades, Ms. Smith has poured her heart, passion, and expertise into the lives of countless students, making an immeasurable impact on education and student achievement. At Dan McCarty Middle School, she has been nothing short of phenomenal—serving as a highly effective 6th grade math teacher, accelerated math instructor, mentor, and teacher leader who helped lead the charge in mathematics excellence.

Through her unwavering commitment to students and instruction, Ms. Smith has helped produce incredible academic outcomes, including an outstanding 70% learning gains in mathematics, proving that excellence, high expectations, and genuine care for students truly matter. Her ability to inspire confidence, push students to greatness, and support fellow teachers has left a lasting legacy within our Eagle family.

Ms. Smith’s presence, leadership, and dedication will be missed greatly at Dan McCarty Middle School, but the impact she has made will continue to live on through the students she taught, the teachers she mentored, and the culture of excellence she helped build.

🎶 Our Singing Eagles Are Soaring! 🦅🎤

We are incredibly proud of our Singing Eagles Chorus Department! Because of the talent, dedication, and growth of our students, Dan McCarty Middle School was awarded support through the Peter R. Marsh Foundation Middle School Music Grant, which provides inspiring musical experiences that help students grow musically, academically, and socially.

Recently, our Singing Eagles performed at Sandgate Gardens Nursing Home and received nothing but compliments for their beautiful performance, professionalism, and talent. We are so proud of the joy they continue to spread through music! 💚💛🎶

Today, we want to extend our sincerest appreciation to Kenson and Jose of Legit Cuts Barbershop and Tyler of Cutz Barbershop for their incredible partnership, generosity, and commitment to supporting the students of Dan McCarty Middle School.

These gentlemen graciously gave of their time and talents to ensure some of our most beloved Eagles were looking handsome, confident, and graduation-ready for the Class of 2026! 🎓

Your willingness to pour into our students goes far beyond a haircut—it speaks to the heart of community, mentorship, and showing our students they are cared for and celebrated.
