ATTENTION: Avenue D Roadway Construction Project is well underway. The project is a complete resurfacing of Avenue D from US 1 to 29th Street. The first part is to remove brick pavers at the cross walks, replace the ramps and curbs to make compliant with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA); the pavers are replaced with the underlayment material, and then the road will be resurfaced; some driveways and sidewalks are being repaired; all this work is done on one side of the road and at several blocks at a time so the entire street of Avenue D is not closed. Please pay attention to the road block signs and detours, and abide by them. And Please, Please do not IGNORE the road closure signs and drive in the wrong direction of traffic. Be patient while this work is being done and the whole community will be proud, trust me.

The City of Fort Pierce will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the Avenue D Road Improvement Project on Monday, June 1, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at 1217 Avenue D, Fort Pierce, FL. Additional parking will be available at 1234 Avenue D.

This important infrastructure project will include roadway resurfacing, ADA-compliant ramp reconstruction, sidewalk and driveway improvements, enhanced crosswalks, upgraded signage and pavement markings, and new vehicle detection systems at signalized intersections along Avenue D from 29th Street to U.S. 1.

Funded through a combination of State grant funding, Infrastructure Surtax funding, and FPRA funding, the project supports the City’s continued efforts to improve transportation infrastructure, pedestrian safety, accessibility, neighborhood connectivity, and community revitalization.

Residents and community partners are invited to attend as the City officially marks the beginning of this important improvement project.
