Community Update 💙🏊💙

This isn’t an easy post to write. After a lot of thought, I’ve decided not to start the survival swim season this spring.

Survival swim requires consistency, trust, and seeing each child through from start to finish. With an upcoming move and uncertainty around my location, I can’t promise that level of consistency right now — and that wouldn’t be fair to the kids or the families who trust me with their safety.

Rather than start and risk having to stop, I’m choosing to pause until I can fully commit to every swimmer I take on. This decision truly comes from a place of care and responsibility, even though it’s a hard one.

Thank you so much for your understanding, support, and encouragement. I’m incredibly grateful for this community and look forward to the time when I can return and serve families fully again.

Today something clicked with me about survival swim. Something I've always had a hard time answering. Parents will say to me my child fears the water after swim school. It has been about children I never taught and it is children I have taught. I hear how confident other children are in the water now that they have gotten lessons. Which answers to all kids are different. Anyways, we shouldn't look at it as fear, we should look at it as a new found respect for water. Water isn't just a game anymore where you put your floaties on and pop around the pool. It's serious and if you don't float, or swim yourself to the wall you will drown. They have learned to respect the water by being shown it is dangerous. This is the whole point of survival swim. Do I ever want a child to be "fearful" of water absolutely not but what I do want is for them to understand that water isn't a game. It is dangerous and that you should only ever be around it if Mommy, daddy, or a trusted adult are with you. Confidence comes with time. You have to continue with them in the pool to maintain confidence and the muscle memory. And, if you happen to not continue doing swim or making them float and they become "fearful" of the water then I've done my job in another respect.

They have learned to respect the water! It is the leading cause of death in children 1 to 4. It is not a joke and if they end up in the water they most likely aren't coming back or their life is changed forever. This is the hard truth and this is the reality!

My last and final student for the season successfully passed his clothes check today. It was an honor and privilege to teach this little one as he is my nephew. I appreciate knowing I got to teach him this life-saving skill. Thank you to his Mom and Dad for allowing me to share this part of his life. I will forever cherish this time I got to share with him. It means more to me than you know❤️

Dear Zachary,

Auntie Tara is beyond proud of you and all your hard work in survival swim. I really got to see your stubborn, rambunctious, and brave personality shine. Our bond grew stronger with all the extra time I got to be with you. You've learned so much in the short time of survival swim. I'm honored to be the one to teach you these skills. It's amazing to see you go from not knowing anything about the water to swimming to the wall, kicking for your swim and turning to your float for air. Your confidence has soared. You keep smiling Zachary because your smile lights up a room. I'll always remember that time of you smiling while swimming to the wall. Always continue to clap for yourself. I knew you had it but I know you knew it when you clapped for yourself while on your float on your clothes check day. I love you so much little buddyđź’™

Love forever and always,

Auntie Tara

Grady has been waiting for this day to come so he could get his own pair of sunglasses from me. Every day he would ask for a pair. He never forgot they were there. He has worked hard to get here. Grady is able to manage to get to his float wearing his water boots. Good job on your clothes check Grady!

Yay!!!! That's exactly how I feel buddy!!

Sometimes we get a kid who may take longer and that's okay. Sometimes they are so stubborn that they just have to do it when they are ready. We practiced turning to our float more than I can count, and staying in our float to get a breath more than I can count. I began to wonder if I would ever see a clothes check day with this little guy. His mom continued to bring him and I kept working with him. And one day he just decided to do it. Now he uses his skill when he is swimming around the islands in the ocean. And I'm so thankful his mom makes him do it there, too.

Let me tell you it was a glorious day and one of the best days of my life when Corbin decided to give in and use his floating skills to swim, float, swim.

Thank you Lauren Carter for dedicating all this time to your little guy and for trusting in the process. Also, thank you for all the jr.s (sweet teas with pink lemonade)♥️

I had the pleasure of doing a refresher course with these 2 energetic and confident little ones. They were so much fun! Their swims are so powerful and they have some beautiful floats too! It goes to show how important it is to keep your littles swimming even when they aren't in swim school. They build that muscle and experience of being in the water. Thank you for letting your precious littles swim with me Debra Logsdon. Have a wonderful rest of your summer❤️

Knox is reviewing the regulations of the pool area! He says to be careful and to walk when there's water on the ground!

I love getting these types of messages from my swim parents. These messages are what makes my day. I even get a little emotional too🥹

She wrote to me to tell me...We were making Corbin swim to get a toy he threw at the island and HE TURNED TO HIS FLOAT WHEN HE THOUGHT HE COULDN’T MAKE IT!!!

I love that she is making him use his skills at the cove which is saltwater. It is so important to make them use their skills no matter where they swim.
