Fort Myers, FL, July 1, 2026 ─ Lee County Human & Veteran Services reminds residents that it will continue to partner with the Lee County Library System, LeeTran and United Way Resiliency Hubs to offer heat-related assistance to people experiencing homelessness and other vulnerable populations this summer.

Lee County Library locations offer a cool respite during daytime temperature highs. For a list of locations, as well as operating hours, go to www.leegov.com/library/branches.

United Way Resiliency Hubs are also available throughout the county for people seeking relief from the heat. Resiliency Hubs that are typically open include Goodwill Industries in Charleston Park, Literacy Council Gulf Coast in Bonita Springs, Goodwill Industries West Cape Coral, Children’s Advocacy Center of SWFL - Palm Beach Boulevard, Community Cooperative, Franklin Park Elementary, The Heights Center, Pine Manor Improvement Association, Tice United Way Resiliency Hub at Goodwill Industries, Lehigh Community Services, Beacon of Hope Pine Island, and F.I.S.H of Sanibel-Captiva.

The county’s Housing, Outreach and Treatment (HOT) teams will continue work throughout July as needed to connect with individuals experiencing homelessness to provide resources and distribute hot-weather supplies, including drinking water and cooling wraps.

Lee County Transit (LeeTran) periodically also may provide stand-by cooling buses, depending on bus availability and heat.

To keep up with heat-relief related services, individuals experiencing homelessness can download the free Lee County Human & Veteran Services’ (HVS) Reach app from the Apple App Store or Google Play. App users should sign up to receive push alerts to receive timely updates.

NASW Florida and Georgia are committed to keeping social workers informed about changes that may impact their professional and licensure journey. The Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) has announced updates to the social work licensing examinations that will take effect on August 3, 2026.

While the exam format and structure are changing, state licensure requirements remain unchanged. These updates apply to the ASWB examination itself and do not change requirements established by state licensing boards.

What is changing?

Beginning August 3, 2026, the updated ASWB exams will:

• Be based on the 2026 blueprint, found in the ASWB Examination Guidebook
• Test three content areas rather than four - Values and Ethics, Assessment and Planning, and Intervention and Practice
• Include fewer questions overall - 122 total questions, with 12 questions being tested and unscored.
• Increase the proportion of three-option multiple-choice questions
• Include a greater emphasis on the application of professional knowledge

ASWB states that these updates are intended to better reflect how social workers use knowledge and skills in real-world practice. To read more, please click here.

What is not changing?
The following parts of the exam process will remain the same:
• Four-hour time limit
• Exam fees
• Exam scoring process
• Registration and scheduling procedures

What does this mean if you are preparing for your Exam?

If you are scheduled to test before August 3, 2026:

• You will take the current version of the exam.
• Continue preparing materials designed for the current exam.

If you are scheduled to test on August 3, 2026, or later:

• You will take the updated version of the exam.
• Review the 2026 ASWB Examination Guidebook.
• Ensure any exam preparation materials you use align with the updated blueprint.

Test-takers are strongly encouraged to review the ASWB Examination Guidebook, which includes information on the exam process, updated content areas, sample questions, and exam-day expectations.

NASW Florida and Georgia will continue to monitor updates related to social work licensure and share information to support social workers, students, educators, supervisors, and professionals throughout this transition.

Lee County Transit (LeeTran) will have buses at three locations for people to board and sit in air conditioning. They will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today through Wednesday, June 24, at these locations:

• Cape Coral Transfer Station at 820 S.E. 47th Terrace, Cape Coral
• Merchants Crossing Transfer Station, near the Applebee’s at 15151 N. Cleveland Ave, North Fort Myers

The Lee County Library System is welcoming individuals in need of air conditioning at two of its libraries:

• Fort Myers Regional Library at 2450 First St., Fort Myers; hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Saturday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.
• North Fort Myers Public Library, 2001 N. Tamiami Trail, North Fort Myers; hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
