Shining the spotlight on one of our incredible CTE educators!

At the start of the summer, CTE set out to upgrade some equipment for our culinary programs across the district, and we are thrilled to highlight Tara Gastineau at Island Coast High School!

Chef Gastineau leads a top-tier program—she held the #1 spot in the entire district for the highest number of students earning their ServSafe certifications! To support her ongoing success, CTE equipped her classroom with a brand-new commercial refrigerator. This major addition gives her culinary students the storage space they need to practice proper food safety and execute even more hands-on recipes this year.

Thank you, Chef Gastineau, for setting the standard for excellence and equipping the next generation of culinary talent!

Ida S. Baker High students kicked off their journey toward becoming future healthcare providers! On day one, they:
✨ Unpacked the key attributes of great healthcare professionals
📝 Participated in "Operation Successful Student"

After months of planning, seeing everything come together this past week was incredibly rewarding!

CTE's CyberCamp brought together 71 students from 15 middle schools and 13 high schools for a week of hands-on cybersecurity learning using the CyberPatriot curriculum. Students explored cybersecurity concepts, solved challenges, and gained valuable experience in one of today's fastest-growing career fields.

A huge thank you to Florida SouthWestern State College for hosting us and to Suncoast Credit Union for providing a grant that allowed us to offer the camp free of charge to students. We are also grateful to MashGrapes Technologies, OCSIT, LCEC, Lee County Sheriff's Office, Lee Health and Crews Bank for their generous support through donations of time, expertise, and resources.

Most importantly, congratulations to all 71 students who spent their week learning, collaborating, and challenging themselves. The future of cybersecurity is bright!

Nicole Rodenfels and Bethany Lloyd from Career and Technical Education (CTE) had the opportunity to attend the Greater Fort Myers and Sanibel Captiva Chamber of Commerce luncheon featuring former Florida Lieutenant Governor Jeff Kottkamp and Kelly Thawley from Florida Gulf Coast University.

Jeff Kottkamp spoke about how Florida tax dollars are utilized throughout the state and emphasized the importance of continuing to invest in CTE programs. He specifically highlighted the growing needs for Aerospace Technologies and semiconductors and the critical role schools play in preparing students for these high-demand careers.

Kelly Thawley shared how FGCU is actively building programs and partnerships designed to bridge employment gaps and create stronger pathways between education and workforce needs.

It was encouraging to hear business, education, and community leaders continuing to recognize the value and impact of CTE programs in preparing students for Florida’s future workforce.

🌟 Student Spotlight 🌟

We are proud to celebrate Gateway High School - Home of the Eagles senior, Lauren Exposito, and the outstanding graduating seniors of Gateway High School!

Lauren was awarded an FSW scholarship in recognition of her exemplary academic achievements and dedication to her high school CTE Medical Academy program. Among her many accomplishments, Lauren became the only junior in a class of seniors to earn her phlebotomy certification — an incredible achievement that highlights her hard work and determination.

In addition to her academic success, Lauren has taken on leadership roles in student-led clubs focused on cancer awareness and community support.

This fall, Lauren will attend Florida SouthWestern State College to pursue nursing with the goal of becoming a trauma nurse.

A special thank you to Florida SouthWestern State College for providing this opportunity and supporting students as they pursue their educational and career goals.

Congratulations, Lauren! Your future is bright, and we can’t wait to see all you accomplish. 💙🎓🩺

Students had the opportunity to explore careers as first responders and learn about EMT, Firefighting, and Corrections Officer programs.
Graduating seniors can enroll right away, with scholarships and grants available.
