The Scientists Society of SWFL is a social organization open to all persons interested in science.
The Scientists Society of Southwest Florida holds monthly meetings from October through April. Meetings consist of a dinner followed by a short presentation by a noted professional on a science or engineering topic. Field trips to local industrial or scientific facilities orcultural activities are scheduled several times a year. Many members participate in community outreach activities including

What a wonderful dinner April 23! We honored 20 students from 14 schools for their success with their science fair projects! Several teachers and parents also attended. We all know it takes a village!
Mason Huffman and the Cape Coral Solar Car Team brought their award winning vehicle, and they were our keynote speakers. What a great night!

The Cape Coral Solar Car team competed in the Sunchase Competition Saturday April 11. The Scientists’ Society has sponsored them since its inception. Their car completed both Sprint Races with the fastest time of 4:39 for 1 lap which earned them 3rd place in the category. Congratulations to Mason and the team!

Members of the Scientists Society went to the Caloosahatchee West Basin Storage Reservoir in Labelle on Feb 20. This is the largest of the Everglades 68 restoration projects.

The Edison Robotics teams held its recognition luncheon today. The teams put on displays for their sponsors and parents. It was a wonderful day for all in attendance.
Next dinner is April 23 at 5:30pm at Heritage Palms in Fort Myers. We will be featuring our award winning students and our guest speaker is Mason Huffman president of the Cape Coral Solar Car Team. A taco bar will be served as the dinner-tickets can be purchased online for $34 at www.science-swfl.org.

Another successful dinner this week at Heritage Palms. The presenter and his topic, "Powergrids and the Law" was interesting and timely. Trudy, the STEM Education program chair also spoke about the programs we support and asked for donations to continue funding them.

What a great day for the Burrowing Owl Festival in Cape Coral on Feb 28! Over 3,700 people attended the event where the Society had an exhibit. We spoke with many, many interested people and provided them with pamphlets, membership forms and dinner reservation forms. Dick Devlin, John Tallman, Pam and Richard Simmons helped Paula Martinez provide coverage for the event which began at 10 am and ended at 4 pm.

Here are pictures from the Lehigh Senior High School Field trip. The teacher said it was perfect, and the people at FGCU were amazing with the content, presentations, and interactions with the students. The Society helped support the learning with a teacher grant. The pictures show students collecting data from the estuary with the drift net, YSI and Secchi disk. The indoor pictures are the lab portion with looking at plankton adaptions, and water samples under the microscopes which they saw phytoplankton, zooplankton and microplastics!!!!
