Welcome back! It's been over a month since we started back in our classrooms and buildings! We're excited to work with you as fellow teachers and association partners this year! We'll send out our newsletter soon, and more frequent updates will also be posted here.
Here's to the 2023-2024 school year!
Members,
We've received some comments from current members and new teachers regarding statements that they are hearing in various parts of the community regarding the political use of membership funds. We'll be speaking about this in the new teacher luncheon tomorrow, but we also wanted to make sure we put out information to our current members who may have heard similar conflicting or confusing information.
The EMO Every Member Option is specifically directed and used for local elections such as ballot initiatives that would benefit our members. It also is used in the local school board elections. If you do not wish the portion of the dues slotted to be used for local elections, local bonds, etc., you can request them returned. Please send an email to [email protected] for further discussion.
In the August Newsletter, we'll include these details with further explanations if needed.
For additional clarification, the NEA takes positions through advocacy, advertisements, and other assorted materials; however, those funds are all voluntary and no member dues dollars are used.
I hope this clarifies some of the concerns that were expressed to us. If you have further questions or need additional information - please send the [email protected] an email.
Finally - if someone you know or hear has questions regarding association concerns, please let your AR know and we can work to figure it out - the AR's and the executive board are always willing to answer questions and if we aren't familiar right off the bat, we'll work on getting the information for you.
Aaron DeLay
Association President
