What an exciting few weeks ahead for Desert Star Academy Performing Arts!

🔥 HADESTOWN 🔥
Hadestown auditions hit hard Wednesday evening, and once again, we were reminded just how much incredible talent exists in our corner of the desert!

Our first round of auditions is officially complete, and now we are eagerly anticipating CALLBACKS this coming Wednesday! The talent, courage, and preparation we saw in that audition room made some decisions incredibly difficult—and we cannot wait to see what happens next.

⚖️ 12 ANGRY MEN ⚖️
Then it’s time for our Middle School Spartans to take the stage!

Auditions for 12 Angry Men are happening Saturday, August 15! Our middle school scholars are already getting excited about these characters as we dive into character analysis in theater class and begin exploring the tension, personalities, and powerful storytelling behind this classic play.

By the end of next week, auditions for both Hadestown and 12 Angry Men will be complete, cast lists will be posted, and TWO productions will officially be underway! 🎬

⚡️AND THEN…GREASE IS THE WORD! ⚡️

On August 22, auditions strike again as we open the doors for our DSA Community Theatre production of GREASE! 🕺🎶💋

Back to school night was a great success! So many scholars excited and invested into the theater program this year. I’m so excited to see where this year takes us!

One of our scholars also made and painted this sign for the table this evening. She said she was inspired by the many types of different characters a person can portray, and wanted to express that.

Desert Star Performing Arts is preparing for another COMMUNITY THEATER EXPERIENCE bringing Rydell High, the T-birds and Pink Ladies to the stage with Grease the Musical - and we want YOU to be part of the energy, the music and the summer lovin!

Get ready to sing, dance, and live in this high-energy production featuring unforgettable music, and characters. Whether you love performing or want to try something new, this is your chance to jump into an incredibly spectacular musical production and be part of something truly special.

Ensemble roles 10 and up,

Come prepared with a 1-minute musical cut from a musical theater performance or Disney show and a 1-minute monologue memorized from a play —and be ready to have fun!

🎶⚡️🏁Go Grease Lightning ! 🏁⚡️🎶

As one curtain closes, another one is already beginning to rise.

Preparations are already underway for a brand new season at Desert Star Performing Arts. Our Middle School students are preparing for 12 Angry Men, our High School students are diving into the incredible world of Hadestown, and our Community Theatre family is opening auditions to everyone for Grease.

That excitement is real… but today, it came with a bittersweet feeling.

As we hauled the final pieces of the Mamma Mia! set into storage, one of our cast members looked at me and simply said,

“Well, Miss Tiff… that’s a wrap on Mamma Mia.”

For just a moment, my heart sank.

The taverna was beautiful. The music was unforgettable. The dancing was funky. The acting was heartfelt. But none of those things are what I’ll remember most.

I’ll remember the people.

For weeks, coworkers, community members, scholars, parents, old friends, and brand-new friends came together to create something truly special. We gave up evenings, weekends, and summer days. We laughed until we cried, survived long rehearsals, solved impossible problems, and somehow transformed an empty stage into a little Greek island that audiences never wanted to leave.

Watching all of the cast trust me enough to take this journey together has been the greatest gift I could have ever received as a director. Seeing the audience leap to their feet after that final bow, wanting just one more song, one more dance, one more moment… that was because of each and every one of them.
