Many people are surprised to learn that ASL is not a signed version of English. It is a complete language with its own grammar and structure.
In educational settings, this becomes especially important. Interpreting in schools is not just about translating words. It's about ensuring students have full access to instruction, classroom discussions, conversations with peers, and interactions with their teachers in real time.
Strong collaboration between interpreters and educators helps create clearer communication and better access for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
Grateful to be part of that work 💛

We wrapped up our final Fe Talk Friday of the Spring semester on May 8 with such a powerful conversation about The Power of Language: A Conversation with a Trilingual Interpreter ✨
We were joined by special guest Erika Manzanarez, a trilingual interpreter who speaks Spanish, American Sign Language, and English. She shared her personal journey of growing up translating for her mom and how that early experience helped her understand what language access truly means.
Erika also shared a meaningful story from her work as a trilingual interpreter. An experience where she was able to connect both culturally and through language. In that moment, she saw firsthand how communication can build confidence, motivation, and real human connection.
One of the biggest takeaways from her message was this: Language is more than words. It is access, understanding, and connection.
She reminded us that growth can feel uncomfortable, change is necessary, and when we see a problem, we should look for ways to help create solutions. As she beautifully said, language connects us all and keeps us open-minded.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this closing conversation. If you missed it and would like the recording, please email me at [email protected] and I'll be happy to send it to you.
We will be taking a Summer pause and will return in August for our Fall Fe Talk Friday conversations. I look forward to continuing these conversations with you all.
Until then, continue to use your voice and your language to shape your world 🌎💛

Last night's Fe Talk Friday conversation was powerful!
We had an amazing guest, Coach Westbrook, who shared practical insights on staying motivated, building healthy habits, and avoiding common fitness mistakes.
Coach Westbrook also shared a bit of his personal journey and reminded us how important it is to keep our bodies healthy and strong. One message that really stood out was: "TRUST THE PROCESS."
Real change doesn't happen overnight. Coach Westbrook reminded us that it can take 3-6 months of CONSISTENCY to begin seeing real results. The key is to stay committed, stay patient, and keep showing up for yourself.
Another important reminder was to remember your "WHY." When we understand why our health and fitness matter, it becomes easier to stay disciplined and consistent.
Here were a few takeaways from the conversation:
-Trust the process and stay consistent
-Keep showing up for yourself
-Create a plan and stick to it
-Drink at least 64 ounces of water daily (about four water bottles)
-Stay hydrated with electrolytes when needed
In life, we often make time for many things, but our health and fitness should never be pushed to the back burner.
I also want to give a special thank you to our interpreters, Miles and Paula, for helping ensure this space remains accessible and inclusive for everyone. Your support helps create a space where everyone can participate.
And of course, thank you again to Coach Westbrook for sharing his experience, wisdom, and encouragement with us.
If you missed the conversation and would like to watch the replay, please send me an email at [email protected] and I'll be happy to send it to you. Everyone who attended will also receive the replay via email.

Last night's Fe Talk Friday was truly special.
What unfolded in that space was powerful, heartfelt, and deeply human. It was simply a beautiful sense of connection and support that filled the room.
Because of the intimacy of what was shared, I felt led to honor that sacred space by not sharing the recording publicly. Some conversations are meant to be held close to the heart, and this was one of them.
A heartfelt thank you to DeLena Johnson Founder/Owner of WHOO Cares, LLC for bringing such rich insight and compassion as she guided us through navigating grief, life challenges, and practical tools to help us keep moving forward. If you missed the conversation and feel you could benefit from her support, I encourage you to connect with her and schedule a consultation. Her wisdom and care are truly impactful.
I also want to extend deep gratitude to our amazing interpreters who provided exceptional services and ensured accessibility for our Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. Your presence and professionalism help make this space welcoming and inclusive for everyone.
I am truly grateful for what Fe Talk Friday is becoming. It's a space of intentionality, healing, community, and growth. Watching people show up for one another with love and authenticity reminds me why this work matters so much.
If you're an ASL interpreter looking for volunteer hours and would like to be part of this meaningful space, I'd love to connect with you. Please reach out to me directly at [email protected].
Thank you to everyone who continues to support and pour into this community. I'm excited for what's ahead and look forward to seeing you at our next Fe Talk Friday.
Let's stay connected, continue to grow, and keep supporting one another on this journey called life. 💛
