Today our 5th grade students celebrated their learning with a Wild West Celebration! This was a culmination of all of their hard work in a cross-curricular event bringing together Science, Social Studies and ELA, where they have spent the last 6 weeks learning all about the Homestead Act and Westward Expansion. Students made their own trail mix and lemonade, bringing in Science with mixtures and solutions. They then shared their knowledge of push and pull factors by exchanging letters written to each other to either encourage or discourage the movement west. Of course we couldnβt pass up the opportunity to have students don their best western gear celebrating Springfield Elementaryβs 25th year as a school in the Fort Mill District! Turns out being a c**t and celebrating the Wild West go pretty well together!
