Watch as Professor Jeremy demonstrates the Cross Collar maneuver by using the uniform lapels.

โžก๏ธ There is an alternative finish to this technique - the โ€œQuick Gripโ€. The second hand goes over the forearm in a โ€œpalm downโ€ orientation instead of going in the collar. The Quick grip is a great alternative as it requires less use of the crowded space around the forearms and neck. ๐Ÿ’ก Remember when using this grip, a proper Mountain Ridge setup creates a bucket of fabric to use between the shoulder and neck on the other side. This is a small detail that has a lot of value.

โžก๏ธ The practicing student executes a Scissor Sweep โœ‚๏ธ with the initial Cross Collar grip and finishes the Cross Collar once in the Mount position.

The purpose of performing armbar drills is to develop strong lateral hip movement from the Closed Guard position in order to effectively apply the armbar technique.

Don't lose your grip just yet! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ For today's we are ๐Ÿคฟ diving into the Kimura Grip...

๐—ž๐—ถ๐—บ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฎ ๐—š๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฝ: A control or submission available from various positions where the assisting studentโ€™s forearm is below their shoulder. The Kimura is created by clasping an assisting studentโ€™s same side wrist and threading the other arm over the back of the tricep, through the pit of the elbow, and then clasping their own wrist.

๐Ÿ’ช This is an incredibly powerful grip because you are using your two arms against one of your opponents.

See how you can incorporate this grip, along with the dozens of other positions and techniques in our glossary, throughout your jiu jitsu curriculum. ๐Ÿ”— kidsprofessor.com/glossary-core

Kids Professor ๐ŸŽ“ came about in order to help prospective teachers and current instructors who are looking to expand upon their curriculum. The resources throughout can work collectively, but do not depend on each other, so you can pick and choose what you want to incorporate.

๐ŸŒŸ As always, we love to hear any feedback or suggestions to help us on our mission of improving the quality, scope, and reach of youth jiu jitsu programs! ๐Ÿฅ‹๐Ÿš€

Going off of the last lesson we shared, this video shows how to DEFEND๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ the armbar technique.

๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿซ When teaching the L-Escape, here are some things to look out for...

โœ… Ensure the practicing student does not try to lift up to remove the leg from their head. This is the strongest part of the leg; the Hamstring is too powerful to manually manipulate with the arm muscles.

โœ… Once the practicing student grips their own lapel, it is important to pinch the elbow of the โ€œattackedโ€ arm to their ribs. This small detail gives great results in preventing the armbar.

๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿฅ‹ In this lesson, Professor Jeremy covers how to practice the basic mounted armbar. The student will perform this technique when their partner pushes up with straight arms from mount bottom.

๐Ÿ’ก When incorporating this into your curriculum, here are some teaching cues to focus on:

โฌ†๏ธ Push Up Chest
๐Ÿ‘ Compressions
๐Ÿ” Chicken Squat
๐Ÿฆต Turn the Knees
๐Ÿšซ Donโ€™t kick your partner in the head

For this week, Kids Professor ๐ŸŽ“ is covering the term 'Kesa Gatame' - a variation of the Side Control position where the near arm and head are controlled. ๐Ÿ’ช๐ŸŽฎ

The goal of this technique is to control the space under the near arm and control the cervical to ๐Ÿšซ prevent easy movements from the assisting student.

๐Ÿฅ‹๐Ÿค In order to reinforce a good training dynamic between students, it's important to follow our partnering guidelines.

โš ๏ธ One guideline you should never forget is to "Explain the Why" - Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is not intuitive and sometimes trying to keep up with where you're supposed to be can be difficult.

๐Ÿ’ก But, building a better understanding of WHY a training partner is doing something, rather than simply telling them what to do, will often lead to a greater understanding of the technique.
