Parents are co-creators of their children's future

The history of the Tenafly station is a prime example of true teamwork. In 1872, when the railway company did not have the full budget to build the station, philanthropist George Hailer covered a third of the cost, and local residents split the remaining expenses fifty-fifty with the company, constructing the building through joint efforts.

In education, the exact same principle operates. When parents stop being mere observers in the hallway and become part of the laboratory's shared community, it creates an entirely different level of energy, engagement, and children's victories.

This is why from October 5 to 10, we are opening our laboratory doors for Parent's Week in Tenafly and Fort Lee. Choose a convenient day and come to Parent's Week to see how your children code, create projects, and win alongside us.

And for parents of our VEX teams, an important separate gathering will take place: on Thursday, October 8, we will hold the VEX Parents' Meeting, where we will thoroughly review all rules and logistics for the new season.

We look forward to seeing you at THE R CHILD!

Spoiler: trying to build something grand alone is a great way to end up with a mountain of extra parts and a nervous breakdown. 🤯 Even geniuses need a team!

Everyone knows Gustave Eiffel. It seems like he just sat down, drew the tower, and went to build it. But here is a behind-the-scenes fact: the initial idea was actually invented by his engineers Koechlin and Nouguier! And to assemble 18,000 metal parts together, it took a coordinated team of 300 workers.

Or take the Statue of Liberty. France gifts America a giant copper lady... and America realizes it has no money for her pedestal. Oops! 😬 The project was saved by a massive crowdfunding campaign: literally the whole country chipped in. Over 120,000 people, including schoolchildren with their pocket money, funded the foundation.

And forget Paris and New York — we had our own drama right here in Tenafly in 1872! Philanthropist George Huyler gives land for the railroad station, architect Atwood draws cool blueprints. But construction stands still until local residents unite and raise the missing amount. Without a team, the station simply wouldn't exist! 🚂

In The Renaissance Child lab, we see this principle every day. One child easily handles mechanics, while another excels in coding. When they unite, instructions end and real engineering begins. Together, children create magic! 🤖✨

Does your child bring home 3D-printed models from STEM classes, you praise their work… and then they just end up collecting dust on a shelf? 😅

Or maybe they have a drawing of a funny monster they’ve been dreaming of bringing to life? 🎃

Halloween is the perfect excuse to turn those 3D creations into unique home décor. And even better, it’s a fun way to spend quality time together as a family. Sit down at the same table, mix your paints, divide up the tasks, and create together — with the phones put away for a while. 🎨

Save our mini workshop on how to paint 3D-printed models!

🎨 Step 1. Smooth Things Out
After 3D printing, plastic may have a slightly ridged texture. Gently sand the surface with fine-grit sandpaper, then wash the piece with warm, soapy water and let it dry completely.

🎨 Step 2. Prime the Model
To help your acrylic paint go on smoothly and evenly, cover the entire model with a thin layer of white acrylic paint or a primer specifically designed for plastic.

🎨 Step 3. Add Color & Get Creative
Use acrylic paints — gouache and watercolor can slide off plastic! It’s better to apply 2–3 thin coats than one thick one. Make it a team project: one of you can paint the base while the other adds the fine details.

🎨 Step 4. Seal & Protect
Once the paint is completely dry, apply a clear acrylic varnish. This will help protect your shared masterpiece from scratches and keep it looking great!

Share this post with fellow parents before the weekend — creating together is always more fun! ✈️🔖

Why is failure the best teacher? A scientific look at children's success.

Stanford University Professor Carol Dweck has dedicated decades to studying why some children give up in the face of difficulties while others persistently pursue their goals. In her famous book, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success, she proved that success directly depends on mindset.

Dweck identified two approaches:
• Fixed Mindset: A child believes abilities are given by nature. To them, a mistake is proof of incompetence and a reason to quit.
• Growth Mindset: A child understands that intelligence and skills develop through hard work. A mistake is perceived as valuable feedback and a natural step toward solving the problem.

At The R Child lab in Tenafly, we base our education precisely on developing this ""Growth Mindset.""

STEM disciplines (robotics, coding, engineering) provide the perfect environment for training this skill. If a built robot doesn't move or a program has a bug, we teach kids not to get upset. They analyze the problem, test new hypotheses, and fix the errors. Children see in practice that perseverance always leads to a working result.

It is this scientifically backed self-confidence that helps our students not only create complex engineering projects but also regularly bring home awards from international competitions.

Teach your child not to fear mistakes and to achieve their goals.

No school this Friday — and many parents ask the same question:
how to make this day actually valuable, not just “filled”?

At our Kinetic Machines Camp, children don’t just stay busy —
they build, test, make mistakes, and figure things out like real engineers.

They create working systems, explore coding concepts, and most importantly — leave with a sense of confidence: “I can do this.”

This is the kind of experience that stays with them longer than any usual day
