When asked the secret to their peaceful marriage, a husband replied, “On our wedding night we agreed that I handle the big decisions—like who should be president, and if the US should go to war—and my wife will take care of the small ones, like where we live and our kids’ schooling.”

As the 2024 presidential election nears its conclusion, it’s vital to remember the importance of civic duty (go vote!). However, political debates often overshadow our personal relationships, creating tension that lasts beyond election day. We can become so absorbed in partisan noise that we forget the significance of the things that truly matter, I.e. our connections with family, friends, and coworkers.

While we may not fully grasp the ballot issues or be able to influence their outcomes, what we can control is nurturing our relationships, and we ought to focus our energy there.

Maintaining strong relationships - especially in times of heightened tension - requires effort and wisdom, and the Torah provides valuable insights and tools for this purpose.

I invite you to join our six-week course, “Nurturing Relationships,” to explore these ideals. Classes will be held on Tuesdays, Nov. 12 - Dec. 17, from 7:00-8:30.
