🗓 When asked what the worst part of my job is, my answer is usually: making and moving around schedules. O.M.G.

Each student has an individualized schedule with classroom schedule, service schedules, on campus job schedules, and off campus job schedules.

And guess what, that schedule usually never stays the same throughout the year or when the service provider is absent and needs to make up services, it’s a nightmare trying to find an available time that works for everyone.

Raise your hand if you’ve been through this 🙋🏻‍♀️😅

🕛FREE: I use these with students who are working on being more independent with their schedules by having them write down what time their jobs and services are at, and using the schedule as a visual throughout the day to be on time.

As a teacher or para, you know there’s that one student that you’ve had for several years that just absolutely loves you and wants you all to themselves, and jealously ensues when your attention goes to other students, especially new ones 😆

🍳Cooking is one of my favorite ways to teach life skills because it combines so many important skills into one meaningful activity. While students are focused on making something delicious, they’re also practicing functional reading, following directions, measuring ingredients, using kitchen tools safely, cleaning up, working as a team, and building independence.

📞 FREEBIE: Every moment is a learnable moment! Do you have your students answer the classroom phone? What might seem like a seamlessly simple task, can actually be pretty complicated for some of our students.

This is the perfect way to practice scripted portions of a phone call, which then requires the student to act upon a request to either get a specific person, relay a message, or write down a message. Life skills and vocational skills practice and of course, visuals help 😋
