Most people recognize the Black Panther Party for their militant resistance to the racism of their time. Angry Blacks shouting and toting guns is an image burned deep into the American psyche.
But the Panthers represented so much more as detailed by Alondra Nelson in her 2013 book Body and Soul: The Black Panther Party and the Fight Against Medical Discrimination.
