Students at Fort Kent CHS are once again being given the opportunity to have an immersive learning experience on Hurricane Island in September! The dates for this year’s trip are Monday, September 7 through Friday, September 11, and aside from lunch money for the bus rides, there is no cost for students to participate! This program is being funded by private donations and grant money secured by the Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership. If you are entering grades 9-12 and are interested in getting more information about the program or want to sign up to attend, please reach out to Mrs. Danielle Reardon as soon as possible at [email protected]. We are hoping to fill our roster (by August 24th) and bring 20 students along for this remarkable experience!
Important to note: You will be missing 3.5 days of school and given hard copies of work to do (as much as possible) during daily designated study time on the Island. There will be no access to internet/phones during the trip except on the bus rides to Rockland and back. Below are some pictures from the past two years…

Allagash View Farms was bustling with student volunteers today as they worked together to pick delicious haskap berries. It was a beautiful day for harvesting, and by the end of the day, the students and volunteers had picked approximately 20 gallon-sized bags!

In an incredibly generous gesture, Amy and Ben Voisine donated the entire harvest to Fort Kent’s school lunch program. Their hope is that these nutritious, locally grown berries will become a delicious addition to school meals and give our students the opportunity to enjoy fresh food grown right here in our community.

A heartfelt thank-you to the Voisine family for their generosity and to all of the students and volunteers whose hard work made today’s harvest such a success!
