Lets welcome our new high school math teacher, Mr. Usher!

Hello! My name is James Usher and I am a new Mathematics Teacher at Fort Fairfield Middle/High school (MSAD #20). Currently I teach Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Precalculus (I look forward to having some students in Calculus and Advanced Mathin the future). I am also the coordinator for the Fort Fairfield Chess Team this year. I grew up in Coastal Maine (Bristol and Brunswick) and went to high school up here in Aroostook County (Caribou High school and MSSM). My degree is in Physics from Bates College in Lewiston, where the focus of my research work was in Laser Spectroscopy. I was also a student teacher of Physical Science. On my own time I read a lot of science fiction, and play chess, as well as juggling too many projects: ranging from designing (admittedly poor) ornithopters to modifying old rotary phones or fixing oscilloscopes and typewriters. I've built a trebuchet that launched stones hundreds of feet, discovered more than one human skeleton at the schools I've taught at or attended, can read ancient Greek, and have released magic smoke from numerous devices. My certification is in teaching Physical Science and I am currently going through the certification process for Mathematics as well. I have a great appreciation for the beauty and strangeness of math and science, and I am excited to share a piece of it with the students of Fort Fairfield.
