This is what our mission looks like in action.
After approving Iowa Central Community College’s Emergency Medical Technician program as the nation’s first Workforce Pell Grant program, U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon, Acting Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling, and Governor Kim Reynolds got an up-close look at the hands-on training that prepares our students to answer the call.
From simulation equipment to real-world emergency scenarios, Iowa Central’s EMS programs give students the skills and experience they need to serve their communities—and build a better life.
We’re proud to show what hands-on, career-focused education looks like at Iowa Central and grateful to the leaders and partners who are helping create more opportunities for our students.

Today, Iowa Central took another step forward in expanding access to affordable, career-focused education.
The U.S. Department of Education announced the nation's first approved Workforce Pell Grant program, allowing eligible students to use federal Pell Grant funding to enroll in Iowa Central's 14-week Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program.
This means more students will have access to the training they need to answer a calling, serve their communities, and prepare for careers that save lives—all while reducing the financial barriers to getting started.
We were honored to welcome U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon, Acting Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling, and Governor Kim Reynolds to campus as we celebrated this milestone for our students, our region, and the future of workforce education.

A historic day at Iowa Central Community College. Proud to be the first institution in the nation approved to offer Workforce Pell, creating new opportunities for students to access high-quality workforce training while strengthening Iowa's workforce. Honored to welcome U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon, Acting Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling, and Governor Kim Reynolds for this momentous occasion.
Iowa is paving the way!
For the first time ever, Americans can use Pell Grant dollars to learn in-demand skills in as little as eight weeks, jumpstarting a high-paying career without being saddled by burdensome debt.
