🎉 Happy Healthcare Simulation Week! 🎉

Today we’re kicking off Healthcare Simulation Week 2026! 🩺

This week is all about celebrating the power of simulation and its role in preparing healthcare professionals for the moments that matter. From practicing hands-on skills and clinical decision-making to communication, teamwork, and patient safety, simulation provides students with a controlled environment to learn, practice, make mistakes, reflect, and grow.

Here at the William G. & Marlys Smith Simulation Center, we’re fortunate to work with students from across our healthcare programs and watch their confidence and skills grow with every simulation experience. 💙

We’re excited to celebrate the people, technology, creativity, and teamwork that make simulation possible all week long!

🚑🩺 Facebook Friday — Short Week, Full Schedule! 🩻💉

Labor Day gave us a short week at the Simulation Center, but we definitely made the most of the days we were here!

🧠 Thursday started with two groups of Theory 3 nursing students joining us for their Mental Health & Psych rotation. Later that afternoon and evening, our Medic 1 students took over the center for a scavenger hunt to get familiar with the space and equipment, followed by some hands-on live-stick IV practice with their classmates! 💉

🩻 Today, we welcomed another group of first-year Radiology students. They practiced lifting and moving patients, learned how our hospital beds operate, and worked through the proper donning and doffing process. Of course, we couldn’t just leave it at that—we finished things off with a relay race to put their new skills to the test! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

🚑 After our Radiology students headed out, Jack and I joined Shy and Peter on campus for a gathering with our current Medic 1 students, bringing another busy week of hands-on learning to a close.

A short holiday week doesn’t always mean a slow one around here! We loved seeing so many different programs making use of simulation, skills practice, and a little friendly competition along the way.

🎉 Facebook Friday – Week 2 is in the books! 🎉

The second week of the fall semester is coming to a close, and the Simulation Center has been BUSY! 🍂📚

🤰🩺 This week, we welcomed six groups of Theory IV nursing students for their OB rotation. They’ve officially completed their second-to-last simulation day — only one more to go! 🎓💪

☢️🩻 Today, our first-year Radiology students joined us for some hands-on learning, including safe lifting and moving, teamwork, and a few other fun activities along the way!

From OB simulations to learning how to safely move patients, there has been plenty of practicing, problem-solving, teamwork, and a lot of laughs throughout the Sim Center this week. 😄

Two weeks down, lots more learning ahead! 💙

🩺💉 First Week of Sim = DONE! 💉🩺

What a great way to kick off the semester! Our students made it through their first week in the Simulation Center, getting hands-on, building confidence, and putting those classroom skills into action. 🙌

Theory III students stopped by to get in some practice with IV starts! 💉 Because apparently, nothing says “welcome back to nursing school” quite like voluntarily coming to Sim to poke things. 😂

We love seeing students take the initiative to practice, learn, and get more comfortable with their skills. Here’s to a great semester ahead! 🩺📚✨

What an incredible week at SimGHOSTS 2026 in Saginaw, Michigan!

Shy, Jack, and I from Sim had the opportunity to learn from simulation professionals from across the globe, explore new technologies, share ideas, and bring back innovative strategies to enhance the educational experiences we provide for our students.

Simulation is constantly evolving, and opportunities like this help us continue to grow, collaborate, and improve the realism and quality of our training. We are excited to put what we’ve learned into practice and continue preparing future healthcare professionals with the best simulation experiences possible.

A big thank you to everyone who shared their knowledge, experiences, and passion for simulation. We appreciate the opportunity to represent Iowa Central and look forward to applying everything we’ve learned for our students!
