Iowa Central Community College Graphic Design

On Saturday, April 18th, a team of three Graphics Technology Sophomores from Iowa Central competed in the second annual "Design Shift" Designathon hosted by Iowa State University. The competition lasted from 9:00am until 6:00pm. The students competed against 156 graphic design students from the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, Mount Mercy, Wartburg, and DMACC. Teams were assigned one of 12 non-profit organizations asking for design assistance. Iowa Central received the brief for "Camp Fire - Heart of Iowa" for their "Camp Grove" project. The students worked all day developing the logo, logo standards, typography, and practical mockup options for the client. They directly competed with two other teams for this client. At the end of the day the Tritons WON!! Their concept was chosen by the client and the logo will be adopted by them and put into use soon. I'm very proud of the work these students put into preparing for the competition and their dedication and professionalism throughout the day!

We had a great time today, hosting Clarion Goldfield Dows and Southeast Valley 7th and 8th graders for our spring Middle School Visit Day. In the Graphic Design visit students had only 10 minutes to create a logo for either "Crazy Cow Milk Co.", "Planet Traveler Rocket Co.", or "Green Apple Candy Co.". They did a great job!
