Say hello to Hayden Ahlbrandt (@lowtideplaytherapist), one of our many incredibly talented Counseling and Career Development Program alumni! 🐏👋

Graduating in 2019 having specialized in School Counseling, Ahlbrandt is now the owner of Low Tide Play Therapy and Family Wellness and Low Tide Coaching and Consulting. With Low Tide, Ahlbrandt offers a creative approach to therapy, helping kids facing adversity express and work through what is going on in their lives.

Q: What is the most rewarding aspect about counseling?
A: What I love most about my job is that I get to work with the “hard” kids... The ones who are always getting in trouble and frequently the people in their lives don’t know how to support them or where to turn next. Play therapy offers them an avenue to work through whatever is feeling overwhelming or challenging for them, to be seen and understood, and to know that they are ok, that they are good, no matter how much trouble they may be getting in. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing this shift. Both that the kid and the adults in their life see this and genuinely feel and believe it.

Q: How did the Counseling and Career Development program at CSU help you become a better counselor?
A: The CCD program was my foundation. None of where I’m at today would have been possible without obviously the education I received in the program, but also the support and the belief in me from the faculty. I still to this day find myself sharing quotes and anecdotes from my advisor!

Q: What impact do you hope to make in your career?
A: While I LOVE my work as a play therapist, I hope to expand my impact beyond the playroom and that is one of my favorite aspects about creating content on Instagram. Through social media, I’m able to support parents, educators, and other therapists all around the world, so that they are more able to support the kids in their lives who are struggling.

Amazing work Hayden! We love to see our students use their skills to help others thrive! ✨💚🐏 10/31/2025
