ERHS 320 Water Quality instructor Dr. Debbie Lee is the featured speaker at this month's Science on Tap!
"Drinking Water Quality & Human Health: Vulnerable Communities in the US"
Debbie Lee is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences at CSU. She is an environmental health scientist, studying the impacts of microbial water quality on human health.
Historically, high-income countries have invested heavily in drinking water infrastructure and services and have reaped the public health benefits of these investments. Even so, access to safely managed drinking water is still not ubiquitous throughout these countries and literature on the burden of disease associated with contaminated drinking water for vulnerable subpopulations is limited. In my presentation, I will talk about my work to estimate the burden of disease attributed to microbial contamination of private drinking water wells, which are federally unregulated and the source of drinking water for over 40 million people in the US.
