This summer, we will be embarking on a very exciting new adventure: builing a strawbale Barn+stUDIO- the Straw Budio! This will be the new hub of activity for the for Ecological Design.
We will use the space to host workshops on natural building, ecological design, art, and living.
It will provide a critical workshop space with all of the best tools and equipment for building: a woodworking shop, welding area, 3d printing zone (with one BambuLabs CarbonX1 and a massive Elegoo Orangestorm Giga), CNC/laser zone, LED and electrical fabrication area, and computer area. It will also have a full bathroom for our guests!

New natural-building International Residential Code (IRC) updates for 2027 are in the works for hemp-lime and strawbale. Bio-based building methods and materials are getting professionalized, thanks to some housing code warriors who have been working for 15 years to standardize natural materials and methods.

The Rocky Mountain Natural Building Conference in Bozeman last week was a huge success! From September 18-20, over 160 participants gathered at the historic Emerson Center to learn, share, and connect.
With more than 20 presenters and three fantastic keynote addresses, we dove deep into the world of natural building materials and methods. The event was a testament to the power of collaboration and community, proving that learning can be both informative and incredibly fun.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended and presented—your energy and passion made this a truly memorable event. The connections made and knowledge shared will undoubtedly help build a more sustainable future, one natural building at a time.
