The amazing Meagan O'Nan is doing something profound this month with her new award-winning book Held and Free and I hope you'll consider supporting.

When she was ready to pick a cover, Meagan was drawn to acclaimed artist Derek Kaplan’s beautiful painting “Freed” and asked if she could use it for the cover. Without hesitation, Derek agreed, lending the artwork, free of charge, inviting her to instead learn about his hometown’s charity, Zimbabwe’s Children.

As Meagan began to discover more about Zimbabwe’s Children through a conversation with program manager Sharon Thompson, she learned more about the literacy challenges of Zimbabwe students (90% of 7th graders cannot read), among other basic life restrictions and she knew she had to help in any way she could.

The intimate relationship between the fundamental message of “Held and Free," "Freed," and the literacy cause in Zimbabwe have inspired her to launch the Upside Down campaign.

For the month of September, Meagan is donating proceeds from the sales of Held And Free—a minimum of $2.60 from the sale of each book, the amount needed to teach one child how to read—with the goal of reaching more than 500 students.

Literacy provides a life-long, priceless gift: The freedom to learn and find inspiration and answers from other people's stories.
