Wheat is one of Colorado’s top agricultural commodities. Over the past two weeks, the Crops Testing Program hosted free, public field days at nine locations across eastern Colorado.
Held annually, these field days are open to everyone, from partners such as Colorado Wheat, producers, and seed company representatives.

These events provide an opportunity for researchers to share their work and demonstrate how they are helping ensure the safety, security, and long-term success of one of Colorado’s most important crops.

Lynne Lewis, professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, textbook author, Nutrien Scholar, and brown bear enthusiast, has never gotten tired of learning. “[As a kid] I knew the name of every rock, every butterfly,” she says. “I liked science, and I was one of those kids who never got tired of learning.”

Lewis has built a career blending her love of nature with economic inquiry, becoming a respected teacher and researcher. She credits her connection with students as key to her teaching, finding the “light bulb” moment especially rewarding. “... I think I might be a young soul since I really connect with young people... I really enjoy getting to know them, learning from them, and I love to see the younger generation getting inspired.”

Glad to have you at our table, Lynne 🐻

For , we're celebrating the tiny creatures that have a big impact on our world—and the researchers in our college who study and protect them 🐝 Since its founding in the late 1800’s, the Gillette Museum has remained committed to its mission of discovery, preservation, and promotion of the Rocky Mountain Region’s diverse arthropods.

Congratulations to John Barnhardt, Erik Sophir, and Phoenix Heavner of Barnfly Productions for winning a Telly award with their Insect of the Week series. Their work shines a light on the specimens and the dedicated team behind them at the C.P. Gillette Museum of Arthropod Diversity.

For the past seven years, the C.P. Gillette Museum of Arthropod Diversity has partnered with other organizations to study moths through the Montana Moth Project, with the goal of documenting the biological diversity of Lepidoptera in Montana, something that had previously seen little documentation and research 🦋

Largely volunteer-led, this work is helping researchers build a permanent collection of moths and other insects from across Montana at the Gillette Museum, ensuring that specimens are carefully stored and available for study for years to come. This nonprofit effort has grown with the support of volunteers and students interested in advancing ecological knowledge of Montana and its Lepidoptera.

Since its founding in the late 1800’s, the Gillette Museum has remained committed to its mission of discovery, preservation, and promotion of the Rocky Mountain Region’s diverse arthropods.

After her first year as coach of the CSU Horse Judging Team and the CSU Ranch Horse Team, Maggie Murphy is building a program rooted in both competitive excellence and long-term student success — an effort that has also earned her national recognition as a member of the COWGIRL Magazine 30 Under 30 Class of 2026. Her goal is to develop students who are not only strong competitors, but also confident communicators, critical thinkers, and future industry leaders.

By emphasizing real-world skills, from decision-making under pressure to defending their reasoning, she prepares students for careers beyond the arena. That approach is already reflected in multiple top-10 national finishes and a historic fifth-place ranch horse team result.

“Judging is a privilege,” she says, “and with that comes a responsibility to lead with integrity, confidence and purpose.”

Support a true pioneer in animal agriculture!

Dr. Temple Grandin has transformed the cattle industry through her groundbreaking work in humane livestock handling and facility design — impacting how animals are cared for across the globe. Nearly half of North American cattle are handled using systems she helped create, improving both animal welfare and industry practices.
