Out of the rubble of yesterday we sprout new growth.
Stellaria media, aka common chickweed, thriving (amidst regular freezing temps!!) in the microclimate formed by the urbanite and bridge constructions of "Denver". Cherry creek. A nutritional powerhouse, high in vitamin c and numerous minerals. Easily identified by the hairs lining one side of the stem

Greetings Friends. Tis the time of year to be planting more perennials in your current landscape. We must give back to this Earth and the generations coming next. My friend Scott Skog is a master plant propagator and he is currently looking to unload 100's of 5 gallon pots filled with the finest genetics on this side of the continental divide for less than 8$ a pot. The plants have to be purchased in bulk (50 plants per lot); so if your interested in investing $400 dollars into food security, living history, indigenous food sources, and the future; contact the man directly here
https://fortcollins.craigslist.org/grd/d/edible-permaculture-plants-at/6319116604.html
Or look over the list and convince me to purchase 1 or 2 lots so you can pick and choose the few plants you want. Keep in mind if I do this I will probably charge closer to $10 or $15 per plant, which is still an amazing bargain! Hurry; the plants are flying off of the shelf as we speak!

A lovely day for hanging out inside and making medicine! Cottonwood buds are cut up and cooked in coconut oil on low heat to create my favorite salve "balm of gilead". The salve is anti inflammatory , anti septic, and pain reducing .
Oregon grape root is chopped and soaked in 40-50% alcohol for 1-3 months to make an extremely potent and broad spectrum anti biotic tincture. The plant is pictured here, a beautiful evergreen ground cover native to Rocky mountain slopes which produces grape like semi edible fruits. The plant in flower is an important indicator of morel fruiting season. Keep a close eye out, I saw some flowering this weekend.

Delicious fruits produced by large plants in Musa genus; a staple for many in this region, the multitudes of varieties have been quite the thrill to enjoy.

Visited the museum of mayan medicine today in san cristobal De casas, Chiapas. A bit of a hole in the wall, but very informative and the demonstration garden proved to be very helpful. We found guava leaves, which are high in antioxidants, minerals, vitamins, and tannins. It has historically used for treating diarrhea by the Mayans. Considering our high exposure to food Bourne illness, this medicine will be greatly welcomed!

Buenos Dias!! On an adventure in southern Mexico for the next month. Luckily foraging is a passion that can be expressed all over the planet! Fresh Coco is a delicious and nutritious way to start the day, and agua de coco, limon, and mezcal margaritas out of a home made coco copa (coconut cup) is a great way to spend an afternoon! Will update as we learn more about native food sources from the region! Hasta luego!
