The school of fish is growing in the Biblioteca! Over the summer break, library staff started a summer reading challenge called fishing for knowledge. More books checked out = more fish up on the wall 🐟🐠🎣🐡🎏

Over the past few months, we have been working with a dedicated young woman who wished to implement a lending library in Nairobi. Pauline Grey, the director of Read & Roots applied to have her organization be part of our Library in a Box Recipient program and has been receiving mentoring from us. They have already seen success! This is the second Library in a Box Recipient program that has been initiated in Africa in the last year. We are delighted to see the programs taking hold just as they have in Central and South America.

In January, we welcomed back the team of fabulous eye doctors and students from VOSH Connecticut. The San Juan del Sur Biblioteca Movil staff provide assistance throughout the week and Jane represents HJH as one of the Program Directors each year. This year, 4330 patients were seen in five days! If VOSH was not able to provide a prescription on the spot, Jane and the library help coordinate a later pickup time once the special order glasses are ready to be delivered. Many of the doctors and students stayed with us at Hotel Gracia (formerly known as Hotel Villa Isabella), and we have made lifelong friends in the process.
