The final days are upon our in-person book fair. During Curriculum Night Thursday September 17, 2026 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Friday the 18th from 2:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., our doors will be open to all shoppers. Last year, Mountainside Elementary third-grader Peyton won the Nutrition Services "Design Your Dream School Lunch" contest, beating out 250 recipe submissions from students across the district!

Peyton’s winning chicken and waffles meal was recently served in the cafeteria, and she was able to enjoy the lunch alongside her parents, sister, and aunt. She also received a printed recipe book featuring her dish and other top recipes from the contest.

Her official review? "It was amazing. I liked how the waffles had syrup. The chicken was so good. It had a good flavor, and I also loved how it wasn't that mushy."

In STEM Class, many students have been working on building with a purpose and collaborating with others in class. While kindergarten was working on the processes of working in a STEM lab, first graders are working on presenting their team’s build to the rest of the engineers in class.

In Mrs. Corneliusen’s STEM Class, 2nd graders met Colby the robotic mouse! While collaborating with others, these engineers coded Colby to reach a specific destination each day. Most days 2nd graders heard a story, collaborated about the setting of the story, and then designed a maze for Colby to run that would ultimately land him at the setting of the story. Colby had many adventures like swimming through the ocean and climbing mountains to reach the desert.

Third graders in STEM Class at Mountainside El. created individual plans and designs for a Domino chain reaction. They used keys in their plan to help clarify as they shared their plan with their teammates. After hearing all ideas, team members collaboratively decided on an end goal for the Domino chain reaction. Not only did these engineers practice steady hands while placing each Domino, they encouraged all teammates to be involved in the team’s design.
