One of the businesses participating in the Altar Walk is Fort Bragg Center for Laser & Cosmetic Dentistry. The altar was a combined effort of Lucy Lizardi, Carmen Alcala, Monica Rodriguez, and Dr. Limbird. This was their first year, and they enjoyed the collaborative effort.

One of the businesses participating in the Altar Walk is The Bookstore and Vinyl Cafe. Owner Maureen Leahy Koller shares their altar's story:

"My 8-year-old daughter Caroline put it together. The photo is of Jenny Gealey, whose parents opened the Headlands Coffeehouse, and she died a couple of months after they opened the business. I went to school with her. So, whenever I get a chance put up a memorial, I use her picture. My daughter put two purple flowers there. I thought that was great, because Jenny really loved purple flowers. She wrote a book called "Purple Sky Flowers," a little book of poems. Caroline included Jenny in the altar because she was fascinated by that, and there's a photo of her great-grandfather (who she only met once) and her cat, of course."

These are a couple of memory boxes that were created in yesterday's workshop.There will be a second memory box workshop next Saturday, Oct. 13, 1:00-5:00, Interior, 224 E. Redwood in Fort Bragg. Bring photos of your loved ones who have passed to create a special keepsake. $10 suggested donation. Craft supplies provided

Mikael Haye shares why The Fort Bragg General Store is participating in the Altar Walk:

"I've been doing altars at various places for several years. It's something my father and stepmother do in Petaluma every year in a public hallway space next to their business. I think it's a really beautiful way to honor those we've lost."

Day of the Dead is rapidly approaching! As a fun little head start, Gin Kremin of Friends of Hospice on the Northern Mendocino Coast will hold a memory box workshop for kids during the Latino Coalition Fiesta on Sunday, 3-6, at Bainbridge Park.

The 2017 Dia de Los Mu***os parade in Mexico City, this last Saturday. The theme was the duality of "Muerte Viva" The first half of the parade was locally produced, and the second half from the opening of the 2015 James Bond film Spectre.
