Monroe County Schools moved up four spots to the 10th best school system in Georgia, according to the latest Niche rankings. In addition, Monroe County Schools remains the #1 district in Central Georgia, and is in the top 7% of 10,449 school districts nationally.

“Our top ten ranking directly reflects the commitment and performance of our teachers, students, faculty, staff, administration and community,” said Monroe County Schools Superintendent, Dr. Jim Finch. “School districts do not succeed without strong community support. Our families believe in a strong education system and they expect us to deliver the best outcomes for students every year. We’re just excited to be considered among the best systems in Georgia.”

Mary Persons High School earned a school-record graduation rate of 95.69% for the 2025-2026 school year. That’s an increase of nearly two percentage points from 2025 and marks the seventh consecutive year above 90%.

“Our graduation rate reflects the hard work and dedication by our students, faculty and staff, administration, and community”, said Dr. Jim Finch, Monroe County Schools Superintendent . “A district’s graduation rate is one of the strongest indicators of successful student outcomes. A huge thank you to those who have helped position our school district in a way that continues to make all of us proud.”

“An excellent graduation rate is a reflection of hard work, perseverance, and a shared commitment to student success. Our students worked incredibly hard to reach this milestone, and our staff worked tirelessly to provide the support and opportunities they needed to succeed,” said Mary Persons Principal Sher Epps. “Georgia has also expanded the pathways available to students, giving more students meaningful avenues to earn a high school diploma. At Mary Persons, our continued goal is not simply to help students graduate, but to prepare them for what comes next. We are proud of our students for taking advantage of these opportunities and proud of our staff for helping prepare them for success in high school and beyond.”

Georgia’s high-school seniors also recorded an all-time-high graduation rate – and slight year-over-year improvement – in 2026. The four-year graduation rate rose to 88.5% -- up from 87.2% in 2025, and an all-time high since the state began using the adjusted cohort calculation first required in 2011 by federal law.

Important Football Game Day Update:

Beginning with this Friday’s game against Troup County and moving forward, sideline passes will be required for anyone accessing the field and sideline areas.

As our football and cheerleading programs continue to grow, so does the number of student-athletes, coaches, and staff needing space on the sidelines. With limited sideline space, it is important that we keep these areas clear and accessible for those directly involved in the game.

This change will also help us maintain a safe, secure, and organized environment and ensure that coaches, players, officials, and emergency personnel can move freely when needed.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we continue to provide a safe and positive game-day experience for our Bulldogs and our fans!
