Forsyth Hosts Student Council District Meeting, Strengthens Community

Article written by Harper Icopini

On March 2, student council members from Miles City, Rosebud, and Forsyth gathered at the Forsyth High School for the annual District 6 student council meeting. Throughout the day, attendees grew their leadership skills, participated in workshops, and elected new district officers.

To start out the day, keynote speaker Jennifer Anderson helped members develop their leadership skills through an engaging presentation and interactive activities. Attendees came away better informed and equipped to be positive leaders in their communities.

Forsyth student council members led workshops throughout the day. Karrissa Fraker, Morgan Icopini, Ryleigh Seleg, and Malia Neuman led a Shark Tank-inspired workshop where members came up with innovative ideas to improve life in their community. Preston McGregor and Sheldon Reilly hosted a trivia workshop where participants tested their knowledge of their towns and the student council. Harper Icopini led a service workshop. Members made birthday cake kits for the food pantry in Forsyth.

The birthday cake workshop was truly a community endeavor. Prior to the conference, the student council ran a food drive to raise supplies for the event. In just a week, elementary and high school students in Forsyth donated enough cake mix, frosting, Sprite, disposable pans, and candles for 40 birthday kits!

Yvonne Mogul provided a delicious lunch of spaghetti, breadsticks, and salad for conference attendees. In the afternoon, district student council president, Brookelyn, led the annual business meeting. Members elected new district officers and proposed resolutions for the state student council meeting next November.

At the end of the day, attendees left the conference with valuable experience and new ideas to take back to their schools.

We are pleased to share that the Forsyth FCCLA chapter will be recognized as a Gold Star Chapter for its exemplary programming and activities during the 2025–2026 school year through Montana FCCLA’s STAR Chapter Program. They will be recognized at the upcoming Montana FCCLA State Leadership Conference in Bozeman.

The STAR Chapter Program outlines recommended benchmarks for a high-quality chapter, with emphasis on meaningful community outreach, intentional leadership development, and active involvement at the district, state, and national levels. Chapters earning this distinction demonstrate a strong commitment to student growth, service learning, and career readiness—reflecting both the mission of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America and the broader goals of Career and Technical Education.

This recognition highlights the dedication of our FCCLA members and their adviser, Ms. Pauley, whose efforts have created impactful opportunities for students to develop leadership skills, engage in service initiatives, and represent our school with professionalism and pride. Their work strengthens not only the school community but also the greater community they serve.

Please join us in congratulating our FCCLA chapter and adviser for this outstanding accomplishment. Well done!
