Calling all JFMC alumni & parents! We are in need (DESPERATE need) of help for VMBC Championships on Nov. 6! If you can volunteer a few hours of your time on Nov. 6 at Liberty U to help us host & facilitate the premier marching band event in Virginia, please send me a private message on Facebook messenger with your contact info (email, phone)---I will provide your info to our volunteer coordinator who will in turn let you know where need help. We would deeply appreciate any time you can give us that day. Covid took its toll on band enrollment---we are about 40% smaller than what we consider "normal", which means fewer volunteers to draw from.

Mr. White needs to send the Beauty & the Beast pit orchestra books back and we are missing several, including the following: Reed 1, Horn 2, Horn 3, Trumpet 1, Harp, Keyboard 2, Keyboard 3, Violin 2, Cello, and Bass. We need these back ASAP!!! Please check to see if your band student has one. They are extremely expensive to replace.

While there are still many unknowns about the upcoming 2020-2021 school year, one thing is for certain: the importance of music in our schools and the impact it has on student’s lives has not changed. Educators and administrators across the country are working tirelessly to strategize ways to....

To hopefully clear up any confusion & ease any consternation regarding the departure time for the Orlando trip:

After speaking with a rep from Super Holiday Tours, we have agreed have everyone arrive at JF Friday evening at 5:30 PM to load/board buses, with the departure time set at 6:00 PM. Everyone should eat dinner before coming to JF, and/or bring food & drinks for the bus ride (please be aware that we have a number of students with tree nut allergies, so please try to avoid foods that contain nuts or may create airborne particles).

Students will receive a final checklist for the trip on Wednesday, and the list will be emailed out as well.

Super Holiday Tours did not initially include Symphonic/Concert Band in the performance schedule at OrlandoFest (the band festival in which we are performing/competing). When I pointed out the omission, they added us to the schedule, but that necessitated an earlier departure time----that was a couple of weeks ago----I got an email from them this morning asking if it would be possible for us to load/board buses at 4:30 PM and depart at 5:00 PM----this possibility raised several concerns (what to do about dinner? what about adults who are scheduled to work until at least 5:00 PM? does that mean students will need to bring all their luggage to school Friday morning? among others). Anyway, we came to a compromise that I hope will work for all concerned.

Let's have fun!!!

Due to the impending inclement weather across our VBODA district, All-District Band Auditions have been postponed to Saturday, Dec.16. The itinerary for Dec. 16 will be identical to the original meant for 12/9.

The Shenandoah University Wind Ensemble will perform a concert at JF at 8:00 PM Wednesday, Nov. 15. Free & open to the public! Let's give them a nice audience!

I've been asked to find a student (or students) who would be willing to play piano at a dinner on Bedford this Wednesday evening---it is not a "paying gig", but they will feed them. It is a 2-hour event, and whoever plays would not have to play for 2 straight hours---just periodically with breaks----its all ambient music---just background stuff while people eat, mingle, talk, etc.

Here's the text of the email:

"I am reaching out to you to see if you may have a student who might be interested in playing some background ambiance piano that night- it’s June 14, from 5:00-7:00pm at the Bower Center for the Arts in Bedford. The individual wouldn’t have to play for two straight hours, and they would be welcome to the food and drink available during the celebration."

This would count toward NHS Community Service Hours (or for any other organization requiring community service).

Just got a text from Harry Farmer that his mother passed away this afternoon. I'm sure thoughts, prayers, and condolence messages would be appreciated.
