The RESPECT check is a lifeline for paras who show up each day to care for NYC’s most vulnerable children, even when this comes at their own expense.

We need to fix the broken system of pattern bargaining. It’s kept our paraprofessionals trapped with low wages for decades and now, it’s preventing them from living in the city they serve. The RESPECT check says that ends now.

Yesterday, UFT District 28 and District Representative Bruce Zihal welcomed 138 new educators to the district at the Queens UFT office in collaboration with the D28 Superintendent’s Office.

New educators learned about the supports and benefits of union membership and the importance of getting involved in union activities. UFT President Michael Mulgrew shared advice and encouragement, while Queens Borough Representative Tabio DaCruz shared his own teaching experiences and insights. Anne W**e provided valuable information on salary, and Joe Usatch highlighted the benefits of the UFT Welfare Fund.

We wish all of our new educators tremendous success as they begin their careers in District 28. Welcome to the UFT family!
