Here we are privy to Coach Val “strategizing” with the
Blue Team planning their plays against the Red team.
These young P*e Wee pros love learning the game while having fun
at First Shot basketball.

Even at 5 and 6 years of age our P*e Wees are learning the difference between offense and defense as they have fun playing a little full court game. At First Shot there’s always a teaching moment mixed with a large dose of fun.

Another First Shot FIRST.
Providing the best instruction has always been essential to the First Shot experience.
We’re now making it even better! For our new fall season, we’ll be bringing an additional Coach on the court to observe and offer short one-on-one coaching to correct and improve shooting technique. This individual attention will refine your child’s skills and make him/her a much better scorer.

ADVANCED OLYMPIX is BACK! This class (ages 11-13) is the next step up from our Olympix level 3; and uses the half-court game as training to best learn the full court game. Students get in-depth instruction and focused playing time for both games. Players improve their shooting, learn their strengths, understand their role on the court, and become stronger in overall skills. Ideal for the student with some experience who wants to advance his/her game, or play on a team.

Get Excited! We’ve Got Great News.
This fall we’re bringing back one of our most popular programs.
Adanced Olympix, ages 11- 13. This program takes the player beyond our Olympix level and provides an ideal balance between mastering the half-court game to proficiently play a full court game. This is a great opportunity for students before they’re ready for our most advanced Powerball class, but are eager to better their skills, take a more active role in the game and perhaps try out for a team.
We’ll be sharing more information about Advanced Olympix soon. Fall at First Shot will be offering lots of “NEWNESS.” Stay tuned! For those who just cannot wait, call our office 718.275.7974 or write to us at [email protected].

Another FIRST from FIRST SHOT….COLOR GAMES!
You can always expect something new and exciting from First Shot. Now, we’re introducing Color Games; a unique concept, exclusive to First Shot, that fosters camaraderie, team building and sportsmanship.
With two teams, red and blue, we created a series of competitions, contests, and basketball games that will be held over a period of five weeks. Members of each team compete against EACH other, doing their best at four or five different challenges each week. At the end of five weeks, the team that has earned the most points is declared the Color Games winner.
Color Games goes beyond the fun and learning of full court basketball. For those who recall their days at Sleep Away or Day Camp, you’ll remember the excitement and enthusiasm around Color War. Now we’ve developed our own spin on that concept and our students are thrilled about being part of it.

Monkey In The Middle is a game that teaches our P*eWee students, (ages 5-6) ball handling skills, while providing them with an opportunity to “beat the coach”.
In the photo, the girl with the ball is FAKING a pass to the girl on her left. The boy on her right has his hands in the READY POSITION, prepared to receive the pass. Coach Darryl,” the Monkey In The Middle,” is completely faked out, while trying to steal the ball.
At this level, we don’t use repetitive drills to teach the basics. Keeping it creative, we incorporate fun games which includes the skills needed to become a better players. At First Shot, we use the concept of integrating games with skills which works to keep the children engaged while they’re actually learning the game.

We believe a child should learn what to do before putting them into a competitive situation. Here we see Coach Darryl conducting a scoring station demonstrating a crucial rule in shooting; fingers must follow the ball into the basket. While this is going on, at two other stations Coach Jon is working with a group on ball-handling and Coach Isaiah is practicing layups. At First Shot, students get solid instruction and the opportunity to then use what they’ve learned in a full court game. We give them the confidence of knowing what to do before they even get on the court.
