One step closer! Now we need the Mayor to sign into law what he has supported in the past. Where we are now didn’t happen magically, it’s been all about hard work looking for support from our members, our electeds, and going back again and again and not accepting NO for an answer. This never would have happened if we listened to those who would never support anything we do because they are not true unionists. This never would have happened if we went away at the first challenge we faced. This is not over, but our fight to help our paras get the much needed respect check will not be over either. Our collective strength, our ability bring UFT members from every title to work together to help our paraprofessionals is yielding results. Next week, the city council will be voting on a bill bringing paraprofessionals the economic relief and respect they deserve. We hope Mayor Mamdani will also see this as an economic justice bill that will help those who barely can afford to live in NYC. Don’t let anyone fool you, this is a step in the right direction, and a clear example of the strength and value of our union membership. UFT - United Federation of Teachers
