Putnam Hill Nursery opens for the season starting tomorrow April 6! Our hours are Wednesday through Friday 9-5, Saturday and Sunday 10-4 (with a few exceptions). Check out our website at www.putnamhillnursery.com for a full schedule. We look forward to seeing you at the nursery!

8 days until Putnam Hill Nursery opens! The Pulmonaria ‘Blue Enisgn’ have been putting on a show and we just received a delivery from Mid-Atlantic Pine Straw, our new favorite mulch. It’s spring 2024 at the nursery!

Beginning April 6 nursery hours are Wednesday-Friday 9-5, Saturdays and Sundays 10-4

We are open! We will monitor the weather but will remain open as long as air quality is moderate or clear.

Putnam Hill Nursery is closed today due to unhealthy air quality. We will reopen when conditions improve.

In the meantime, enjoy this video of bees working the flowers of the native perennial, Tradescantia ‘Mrs. Loewer’. This has been occurring every morning since mid-May and will continue most of the summer. A very long blooming perennial!

Jane has been a part of Putnam Hill Nursery for over 10 years, and in celebration of her June birthday, we are featuring her favorite flower, the iris. In bloom today are our Iris ensatas, ‘Pleasant Journey’ and ‘Light at Dawn’. Both are suitable for the pond’s edge as well as the garden. Iris ensata grows well in average to wet soils, blooming mid-season. In honor of Jane, all iris at Putnam Hill Nursery are 10% off, this weekend of June 2-4, including Iris ensata, including ‘White Ladies’, Iris sibirica, ‘Caesar’s Brother’, Iris foetidissima ‘Paul’s Gold’, , Iris fulva, ‘Copper Iris’, a native, and a native shade grower, Iris cristata. Happy Birthday Jane!!

Happy spring! Putnam Hill Nursery is open this week Wednesday through Saturday, 10am-3pm. We will be closed on Easter Sunday. Stop by and see the Pulmonaria ’Blue Ensign’ in bloom while checking out all our new goodies for sale. It’s bluetiful here!

Brrrrr! It’s gonna get cold out there the next couple nights, but the plants are cozily tucked in and ready for the weather change.

We will be closed tomorrow, Sunday, March 19 until the cold front passes. Regular hours resume Wednesday, March 22 at 10am. See you then!

We are kicking off this spring season at our first event sale at Winterthur’s ‘Bank to Bend’, in Winterthur, Delaware. Come find us right inside the visitors center, we are here 10:00am - 3:00pm.

Fall is the perfect time to plant. Warm ground temperatures help the roots become established while the air is cooler, and this allows them to be better prepared for next summers hot sun and drier conditions.
