Standards are contagious.

Your environment teaches you what to tolerate before it teaches you what to achieve. If you stay around disorder long enough, chaos feels normal. If you stay around disciplined people long enough, excuses start feeling embarrassing.

Happy September 1st!!! This month, we’re starting from the ground up. Literally 🤓

In September, we’re putting a major focus on takedowns and leg locks… because being dangerous on the ground is great, but knowing how to get the fight there on your terms changes everything.

We’ll be working through wrestling fundamentals, throws, trips, sweeps and leg entries, then connecting those positions into control, transitions, submissions, escapes and the entanglement game.

The goal isn’t just to collect more techniques.

It’s learning how to connect the pieces.

Close the distance. Get them down. Control the position. Find the finish.

And because this is a Gi + No-Gi focus, everyone gets to work — whether you’re a brand-new white belt building your takedown confidence or an experienced grappler looking to sharpen your entries and leg-lock game.

September is going to be a fun one.
Train. Ascend. Repeat. Train. Ascend. Repeat.

Muay Thai crew leveled up last week!!! 🥊

Unlike Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai doesn’t have a universally recognized belt or ranking system. But progress still matters… and not everyone chooses to measure that progress by stepping into the ring.

That’s why we created our own internal Bel Air BJJ Muay Thai ranking system: a way to recognize growth, set clear goals, track technical development, and help our coaches pair athletes appropriately in training.

And since implementing it, we’ve seen exactly what we hoped for! More motivation. More accountability. More people working toward that next milestone. And a room full of athletes who are genuinely proud when they earn it.

These ranks aren’t given for simply showing up. They represent time on the mats, improvement in technique, consistency, composure, and the work put in round after round.

Congratulations to everyone!

We had such an excellent turnout this Saturday! It was a pleasure hosting George Sernack, whose background started back in Renzo’s legendary “blue basement” in NY. An hour and a half of knowledge share plus another half hour of rolls 💪🏻 couldn’t have been better. Thank you so much George for driving all the way down here just for us and thank you to all that came to support!

I recently saw a post that said:

I felt that.

Happy August 1st - IT’S TURTLE MONTH!

Most people think turtle is a defensive position. They’re wrong.

Turtle is one of the most important transition points in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Every scramble, every failed guard pass, every takedown, and every escape has the potential to end here. The athlete who understands turtle dictates what happens next.

This month, we’ll study the complete system, from both sides.

You’ll learn how to recover guard, wrestle up, and escape under pressure. You’ll also learn how to control the position, break down strong defensive structures, secure back exposure, and finish submissions without sacrificing control.

July taught us how to dominate from the back. August teaches us how to get there—and how to stop others from doing the same.

Master the transition, and you’ll master the exchange.

We are so excited to host George Sernack for a seminar Saturday, August 8th!! He is a Renzo Gracie 4th degree black belt and our very own Coach Alex’s OG professor! George has been training since he was 12 years old and still trains with Renzo himself - he brings a wealth of knowledge to the sport in both Gi and Nogi and has competed around the world for the last 2+ decades. All are welcome!! This is a Gi seminar and will be free for our members, and non-members we ask pay a $30 fee.

Maybe you dont realize how good you’re doing because you keep raising the bar.
