There is now a confirmed case of measles in Rutherford County. If you attend Mountain Creek Baptist Church in Gilkey you may have been exposed.
Please help us keep our little cubs safe. The Measles vaccine cannot be given before 1 year. The second dose, not until 4 years. That leaves a substantial portion of the children in our care are more susceptible to contracting Measles.
If you have been outside the county, please also be aware there are confirmed cases in Spartanburg County SC, Buncombe County and Polk County in NC. Please keep children home with fever, runny nose, cough, red/watery eyes, or rash. The rash typically develops later from what I understand. Keep children home, even if you think its a 'cold' to ensure symptoms do not worsen into more measles symptoms. If you have questions, please let me know! Thank you!

VERY late post. We had an awesome Halloween party. We enjoyed having parents participate. We set up our own fall festival and the kids had a blast! The menu for Halloween day was full of themed foods as well. So much fun.

🚨 Measles Outbreak Update: Upstate South Carolina 🚨

Health officials have now confirmed 8 measles cases in Spartanburg County, SC — just across the border from Rutherford and McDowell Counties. This increase is especially concerning due to our region’s close travel and commuting ties.

While there are no confirmed cases in North Carolina, measles is one of the most contagious viruses in the world. It spreads through the air and can linger for up to 2 hours after an infected person leaves an area.

🩺 What You Can Do:
✅ Check your vaccination status — two doses of the MMR vaccine are about 97% effective.
🚫 Stay home and call your healthcare provider if you have symptoms (fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, rash).
👶 Protect infants and others who cannot yet be vaccinated.

Vaccinations are available at both Rutherford and McDowell County Health Departments.
