The East High Class of ‘74 got together for dinner on Thursday, July 16th. We had a great meal and a great time talking to some we haven’t seen in years. If you haven’t joined us for our quarterly meals you can catch us on the next one. We will meet at Big Dave’s at 1:00 on October 15th. It is always the 3rd Thursday of the months of January, April, July, and October. We would love for you to be there.

Our classmate luncheon will be Thursday, July 16th @ 5:00 at Pleasant View Community Church.
This will provide an opportunity for those that are still working to join us. We are not changing our lunches to dinners, but may start having our July meal in the evening.
We have enough money in our account to provide pizzas for this meal. We will need salads, dressings, desserts, and drinks. Maybe even baked spaghetti for the ones that don’t eat pizza. If you would like to contribute something, please be sure and get in touch with Susan Campbell, Marty Beam, or comment on this thread. We will definitely need a firm number of people that are coming so we can provide the food that will be needed.

We hope everyone had a blessed Easter.

Our spring lunch meeting is coming up on Thursday, April 16, at 1:00 PM. This time we’ll be meeting at the Soul of Michoacan Mexican Restaurant (my spellcheck tried to change it to Michigan). Back in our day this was Quincy’s on the Tri-City Mall property. Please let us know if you and a guest can attend so we can let the restaurant know how many places to reserve for us. We’d like to have a headcount by Monday, April 13. You can reply either to this email or the "East Rutherford Class of 1974” page.

It has been suggested that we discuss having an evening or Saturday gathering sometime since we have a few classmates who are still working or are otherwise unable to attend during lunch. We can talk about that when we meet on the 16th.

We hope to see you on the 16th,
Reunion Committee

A lot of you won’t know Cindy. Her father was the pastor of Florence Baptist Church during the 60’s. She went to Forest City Elementary and maybe a year to Cool Springs. Then her family moved to Asheville.
When I read her obituary I was so saddened. She went on vacations with my family and we spent time at each other’s homes and of course, participated in many church activities. We rekindled our friendship on FB several years ago.

Cynthia Ann Lawson 9/27/1956 - 2/22/2026
Cindy was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, the daughter of Kenneth Lawson and Jo Ann Tedder. Cindy grew up in Asheville, NC, and was a student at Reynolds High School. She attended Western Carolina University from 1974 to 1978 and received a Bachelor's degree in early childhood education.
Cindy retired from the NC Department of Health and Human Services' Communicable Disease Branch in 2019.
She endured her battle with esophageal cancer with grace and courage. She is survived by her sister, two daughters, and a granddaughter: Her daughter Lauren Moore, her husband Chris, and their daughter Cecily, all of Charlotte, NC. Her daughter, Sara Mills, and her husband, Peter, of Marshall, NC. Her sister, Debbie Maye, and her husband, Ben, of Fort Mill, SC.
Cindy cherished her family, friends, and her faith. She was passionate about fostering animals through local rescue groups and dearly loved her own pets. Cindy treasured her time in the North Carolina mountains and beaches. As a sun seeker, she asks that you "keep your face towards the sun and the shadows will fall behind you".

Our quarterly lunch will be January 15th at Big Dave’s at 1:00. Penny has reserved a room for us. Please let us know if you will be there by responding on this thread or by emailing Marty. We will need to know how many so we can let Big Dave’s know a number.
