Forest City Futures STEM Program

Forest City Futures STEM Program This is a summer STEM program for select Forest City Elementary School incoming 2nd and 3rd graders. The STEM class is held from 10 to 11 AM each day.

The Forest City Futures STEM Program is taught by Forest City High School students Gavin Lichtsinn and Peter Wilson. The STEM program allows select incoming Forest City Elementary School 2nd and 3rd graders to participate in exciting STEM activites not typically provided during the school year. Activities in the STEM class will include: making clouds in a jar, powering a light bulb with lemons, cr

eating magnetic slime, and so much more! Students will build skills in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The Forest City Futures STEM Program aims to spark youth interest in STEM, exposing them to activities early in their development. The importance of student collaboration and group work is a large focus of this program. The program is held Monday through Friday, during the regular summer school class day.

Today marked the final day of the 2025 STEM Program. The students began by presenting their stop-motion videos to the class. Then we ended the day on the playground to celebrate their accomplishments.

It has been a pleasure to teach and work with this group of kids. We hope to continue the program next year and look forward to seeing what these bright young minds do next. Have a great rest of your summer!

On day 11, the kids learned about chemical reactions and common examples in everyday life. Then, they created their own chemical reaction with elephant toothpaste. After this experiment, the kids began working on their stop motion videos that we will continue working on for the next few days.

On Day 9, the kids learned why things float and what makes a boat sink or stay afloat. They explored the differences between good and bad boat designs, then put their knowledge to the test by building their own boats. To cap it off, they had a competition to see which boat could hold the most weight. Congrats to Ellie and Cambry whose boat held an impressive 10 blocks!

On Day 4, the kids wrapped up their bridge-building project by finishing their popsicle stick and straw bridges and testing them with weights. Two bridges reached 10 pounds without breaking—one built by Ellie, Tate, Stanley, Owen, and Noah, and another by Marlee, Chloe, Cambry, and Brynn.
