It’s the start of a new school year, which means it’s the perfect time to remember that teachers are human, too (and a few other back-to-school reminders).
📚 🍎 📓
✏️ Teachers are working so hard for our kids . . . for next to nothing.
Believe me, no teacher is in this career for the money. They spend hundreds of their own dollars and hours of their own precious time planning and prepping so our children can learn important academic and life skills.
✏️ Progress isn’t always academic.
Learning how to work with others, how to listen, how to follow directions, how to do things independently—these are all huge achievements that can’t be pulled out of a folder or stuck on the fridge at the end of the day.
✏️ Teachers are incredibly creative.
They have devised some of the coolest, most innovative strategies for helping our children learn important concepts. They are constantly working to come up with new ideas and ways to teach, nurture, and engage.
✏️ Teachers are human, too.
They do the best they can to help each of their students, but it is impossible for them to be everything to everyone every single day. Sometimes they have off days, just like we all do. Sometimes they make mistakes. If they miss something, it’s not because they are lazy or negligent—they are just trying to juggle a busy classroom with a wide range of abilities and needs.
✏️ If at all possible, please please spend time at the school.
Be a substitute, volunteer to read, help with the book fair, go in and talk about your job or passion. Kids LOVE having parents there. And you will see firsthand how much teachers do every single day to care for, nurture, support, and teach our children. It will astound you. And exhaust you. You will want to give them each $1 million dollars.
✏️ If you can’t make it into the classroom, please try to give in other ways.
Buy cleaning or school supplies, donate to fundraisers, offer your services or time in other ways that benefit the school. Schools—and consequently, children—thrive from parental and community involvement.
✏️ A little bit of appreciation sure goes a long way.
Please remember to thank teachers for their selfless dedication to their kids. Because even though they may go home to us at the end of each day, teachers will always think of our kids as theirs, too. And that right there is why teachers are so dang special. ❤️
