First Institute has been providing Workforce Investment Act (WIA) services for both adult and youth populations throughout northern and central Illinois in conjunction with One-Stop partners since 1989. In 2001, First Institute was awarded a cost reimbursement contract with Lake County to identify, recruit, asses, determine eligibility, provide comprehensive case management services, follow-up and place into employment, one hundred out of school, economically disadvantaged youths. In the last six years, under the Workforce Investment Act, First Institute received twelve awards recognizing excellence in accomplishment of organizations, businesses, and individuals working under the Workforce Investment Act.
