Voters in Fontana Joint School District No. 8 on April 5 passed the district’s referendum request to increase the district’s revenue limit over the next four years.

The Joint Finance Committee is going to vote on Thursday 5/27 about the K-12 biennium budget and ESSER3 allocations.

News coming out of the capitol is that the JFC feels ESSER funds can sustain schools for this biennium, and are proposing a zero increase in funding. Without a modest increase in the revenue limit or categorical aide, districts across the state will have very difficult financial decisions to make moving forward.

This is not just a Fontana/Big Foot issue, this is an issue in all of the communities that we all live in. I encourage you to contact your legislators Wednesday to voice your opinion about K-12 funding.

The Wisconsin funding system for schools is broken! Especially for our local schools, the minimum per pupil aide is imperative to keep all our schools running. This isn’t a consolation issue - our tax money isn’t being spent on our local schools!

Despite recent increases, Wisconsin’s public K-12 school districts still receive less in state aid than they did a decade ago, prior to historic cuts to education. During that timeframe, state lawmakers chose to pass large tax cuts instead of investing the money in local schools.
