Rain adds a whole other element to play - and we’re here for it! 🌧️ 🙌🏼
Not only does playing outside in different types of weather build resilience and grit, but the rain gives the opportunity to be creative and play in a way you can’t in dry weather.
Rain also provides a unique sensory experience by transforming the world around you with different sights, smells, sounds, and touches. Sensory input from the outdoors helps build neural pathways in the brain and promotes self-regulation.
We run year-round programming here at in all types of weather.

See you in the woods 🌱
At TimberNook, we intentionally create space for children to lead their own play, take healthy risks, solve problems, and work together in ways that can’t be taught through adult-directed activities.
When children lead their own play - build forts, navigate muddy trails, negotiate ideas with friends, or figure out how to carry that “impossible” log… they’re building so much more than play.
✨ Independence
✨ Critical thinking
✨ Teamwork
✨ Confidence
✨ Resilience
The woods become a place for adventure, discovery, and growth — and the children rise to meet every challenge.
Because capable children don’t need adults to do it for them. They need opportunities to discover what they can do themselves. 🍃

✨ Introducing Little Wild Ones ✨
This year, we’re so excited to launch something new at TimberNook Lake Winnebago Region — a weekly forest program designed to give children the time, freedom, and space to deeply engage in child-led play outdoors.
🌿 Little Wild Ones is a school-year program that meets on Thursdays from September-April where children will:
• Dive deep into child-led play that sparks creativity, teamwork, and critical thinking
• Build, create, and engineer grand-scale adventures
• Experience the wonder of the forest through every season
• Grow confidence, independence, problem-solving skills, and friendships through extended time outdoors
Because childhood was never meant to happen only indoors. 💚
📅 Thursdays Sept-April
⏰ 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Ages 5-12 are invited to attend. Ages 5-6 will have a caregiver stay during the program, for ages 7-12 it is a drop-off program.
From muddy boots to magical worlds, this program is designed to give children the time, freedom, and space to truly play.
This is our first time offering a program like this — and we can’t wait to watch these little wild ones grow. 🌲

Fort building is so much more than play.
When kids gather materials, work together, solve problems, and bring ideas to life they are building creativity, teamwork, and resilience along the way.
Today they built forts, created a “fire pit”, and even built their own plant and hand washing station.
A simple fort today can become the foundation for lifelong skills tomorrow. 💪🏼

Mud play is more than messy fun 🤎
Children often intuitively seek the exact sensory input their bodies need. First, she moves her feet through the cool, thick mud… then scoops it up, shapes it into a mud ball, and throws it. Each action gives her a different kind of sensory feedback — grounding, strengthening, organizing, and regulating her nervous system through play.
At TimberNook, we intentionally create spaces where children can follow these natural play urges freely — because this kind of sensory-rich, child-led play is exactly what growing bodies and brains need.
To adults, it may just look messy.
To a child, it’s meaningful learning ✨🌿

Instead of saying “Be careful”… try saying something that helps them think. 🤔
“Be careful” is usually said with love—but it’s so broad that children often tune it out. More specific guidance helps children slow down, notice their bodies, and assess risk for themselves.
Try questions like:
• Are your feet/hands in a good spot?
• Are you aware of who’s around you right now?
• I wonder if there is a different way you could do that?
• What’s your plan?
• Do you feel steady?
These small shifts build body awareness, confidence, and decision-making skills.
At TimberNook, we create spaces where children can experience challenge in age-appropriate ways while supported by caring adults nearby. Because confidence doesn’t grow from constant warnings—it grows through practice. 🍃

✨ Where imagination turns the ordinary into something magical… ✨
Our final spring program is almost here, and it’s one you won’t want your child to miss. Roxaboxen is inspired by the treasured book by Alice McLerran — a story that celebrates the limitless magic of childhood imagination.
📅 May 9th
⏰ 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
👧🧒 Ages 7–12
For one special day, children will step into a world where they build their own town in the woods, stones become money, and they dive deep into their own world.
At TimberNook, children gain so much more than a fun day outdoors:
🌿 Creativity & problem-solving
🌿 Confidence through independent play
🌿 Social connection & teamwork
🌿 Joyful, screen-free childhood memories
This is our last spring program before summer camps begin in June, and spots are limited.
Give them one more day of wonder before summer starts. 💛
